Thanks frog... That helps. I think it's real similar to the reality we'd face... I think if money were no object, it'd be really easy to make the wrong choice here. I don't think he'd be better off if we did all that.
Taking him in the back of the truck sounds like a good option, if you don't have a crate, and if you think you can keep him in there when she comes out to look at him. Will he tolerate being leashed or harnessed somehow?
I know how pissed old cats can get. My mother's old cat once shreaded the backs of my leather work gloves when I tried to get her out of a crate after taking her to my house while Mom went on vacation. I had planned on trimming her claws before letting her loose with my cats (Ha!) but that idea went down the toilet real fast. Mother could do it to her, but Heaven help any other poor soul who tried to muscle the old cuss around! I finally had to just give up and let her out and then spent two weeks trying to stay away from her because she hated my guts after that and would take a swipe at me anytime I got within arm's reach. Good luck, and I'll pray for the right answer for ya.
I like the idea of taking him in the truck, though it could be interesting trying to get a look at him if he doesn't want it.
One thing folks may not grasp from your posts unless they'd met him (and I know it doesn't make your decisions easier) is that he isn't a tottering old weakling who's barely limping through the day. He's still very strong and very stubborn!
Well, we could have been well prepared, but our nice big kitty crate is up at the beach house... loaned when they had to get their bad kitty to the vet.
We borrowed a small one from Rosie but we'll be lucky to cram both kittens in there. I don't think it's big enough or strong enough for Cartman's heft.
Yeah - he's really strong, twenty pounds of pissed off cat with claws attached ;~)
LOL!!! Isn't it fun to try to get more than one cat in a crate?! It's like trying to eat jello with a fork. You may get one of them in there but when you try to shove the other one in there, the first one usually comes squeezing out the cracks.
Can you sedate her? Maybe if the pic isn't enough and the vet wants to see, he could order something. Can't give a lot of stuff with glaucoma though.
We've been letting them play in it all morning... right now they think it's a rather fun cave. :`)
"I'm just very sensitive to animal suffering....I can't stand to see it."
You just had to get one more dig in, didn't you? Gotta try to get that guilt trip going. Get lost.
Could be... I know they gave us some meds to sedate my brother's bad cat in preparation for taking her to the vet.
Oh - I should say... in the case of my brother's cat, it didn't help much... she just became a rather mean drunk :~)
"Bad cat" is just....sooooo not a sufficient description of Josie.
Hair, regardless of what people on this thread are saying (*ahem*) I know that you'll do the right thing. You always do. Best of luck, my friend.
What are you crazy? How is that a dig??? I was sincere.....whatever...adios.
I have one older barn cat that is a royal pain to get vet work on. Spring shots are coming up and I'm soooo dreading it.
Good riddance and don't let the door hit ya on the way out.
:') Probably slept it off after he got back home too, huh? The vet might not want to give yours anything, anyway because of his glaucoma.
Like I said, been-there-done-that. It's like wrestling with a running chainsaw.
HA! That's a perfect analogy.
Haven't they used marijuana to treat Glaucoma?
Hmm... I wonder if I still know where to look.... ;~)
