Southern Mississippi also made it to a bowl. Vandy, Western Carolina and Central Florida were the only UF opponents that didn't go bowling.
"That's the one potential problem with USC, and it's what elite college basketball programs like North Carolina found out."
Last years group was a big defection for USC and all had 2 NC rings each. That's why they play most of their freshmen early. Pete Carroll and his staff expect most of their players contribute right away. Their backups to their starters are 4 and 5 star high school AA bluechips. An 11-2 record, a top 5 finish are an offyear for them since 2001. The jrs from this years team are all committed to staying. Jarrett is the only underclassmen likely to turn pro. He very well may stay but if he leaves they have 5 star AA wideouts Patrick Turner, David Ausberry, Vidal Hazelton who are all Jarrett like clones who will fill in nicely.
It's great to have talent, but you also have to have chemistry. Easier said than done.
Wasn't questioning Florida's schedule, they played a good one. Might be the difference when they play Ohio State, because Ohio State played a much softer schedule than Florida this year.
Their record over the past 5 years proves both. They have both talent and chemistry plus coaching. They have contended for the national championship every year since 2001. They are the new dominant power in college football that Miami and Nebraska were in the 80s and 90s. I saw this coming in 2001 the year they crushed Iowa in the Orange Bowl with Carson Palmer. This year's team was similar to that one. If they keep it up they will be like Bud Wilkinson's Oklahoma dynasty of the 50s.
all credit to Boise State
I was just responding to the guy who said OU screwed up by scoring the TD off the interception
there are other ways they could have won the game
lots of other ways
when you can score a TD...you score it.
you probably won't know what I'm talking about unless you read the post I responded to
yes they did

The 2005 championship game of USC vs Oklahoma was one of the worst beatings I have ever seen thrown on a BCS team. (Outside of Nebraska on UF back in the 1996 championship game.)
USC didn't really have much of a running game this year and I also think that their coaching staff did not do a great job in keeping the team focused on winning. I can understand losing to a rival because the other guys can play above their heads for one game but USC rolled over for UCLA and Oregon State for the 1st half. The team's performance against Michigan proves it.
USC reminds me of Miami without the felon type atmosphere. They have speed that only Florida schools can copy, they are explosive and they can disrupt your defense with their pass rush and blitzes. They lost to Texas last year because they didn't game plan well enough for Vince Young. Otherwise, they would have back to back outright championships with a split on the third. I expect that they will contend for the next two years then drop off most likely for recruiting or booster infractions.
why is this not an INSTANT CLASSIC
I checked ESPN Classic's upcoming schedule...it's not on there yet...
I wish I taped it
USC's defense wasn't good for most of last year. Remember even Fresno State hung 42 on USC's D.
Didn't they lose their 2 safeties early on this year? They looked mighty good yesterday though.
"USC reminds me of Miami without the felon type atmosphere. They have speed that only Florida schools can copy, they are explosive and they can disrupt your defense with their pass rush and blitzes."
Very true and Pete Carroll won't tolerate it. They are also big and physical as well as quick. The defense is brutal just like the Baltimore Ravens. They lost to Texas on a few bad calls and some lost focus.R Bush lateraling the ball away and the non call on the Bing/Cushing fumble recovery prevented that game from turning into a complete USC romp. Even with the turn out Frostee Rucker dropping into coverage on 4th and goal was key too.
They run a pretty clean program and may not have recruiting trouble. Winning like they do is the greatest recruiting inducement.
Plus in SoCal they are the only football game around. Matt Leinhert (suc?) was a god around that town. Partied with Paris, rolled with Snoop Dogg.
"I disagree. The problem is that the major conferences are more worried about their own championships, TV money & Bowl alliances. A playoff system competes with all of that. I think that if a financial package could be structured to make it attractive to the conferences, then you'd have a playoff."
In the words of that great 20th Century philosopher: "Follow the money" (Deep Throat). The money is against a play-off system.
But you left out two very important factors mitigating against a play-off system. The bowls and the alumni. Usually very good alumni that contribute heavily to the teams. (Follow the money.) The alumni like the current situation. They have weeks to prepare for a bowl that is usually held in a very attractive location. They can take a week off and travel somewhere warm for New Years. The bowl game is the cherry on the cake.
Sure, they could go to a play-off site but it wouldn't be the same. The alumni wouldn't travel. At least not like a bowl game. Well, maybe to the first round, but the remaining rounds would not have a large alumni turn-out. Only a week to make arrangements. Even harder to get the alumni to come to later round games since they can't make time in their schedules, costs of multiple trips, etc.
Face it guys, there won't be a play-off system just because the fans might want one. All the decision makers like the current situation.
"I think they defended the play ok; when the receiver caught the ball, he was short of the first down by about four yards and didn't look like he was going to make it. The lateral caught everyone in the stadium by surprise. Give Boise State credit for a brilliant play."
One guy (#16) on OU screwed up. The receivere was going down but he over-played to get in on the tackle. Had he played the ladderman coming across the field, the play would have been busted. You can see #16 flashing past the play.
But it was a very good offensive play. Boise State had several very good plays designed to exploit Oklahoma's young, very quick, and very agressive defensive players. They got them to bite on several key misdirection plays. Their first TD. This critical 1st down. The two pointer. All of these were exploiting these key factors. Great coaching by BS.
That said, I'm looking on the bright side (OU Grad). Stoops may be a lot of things but he is not stupid. OU has always had a tendency to go head to head with their opponents believing that they can out play most any one. That's a great attitude to have but I'm sure Stoops just may have learned a very good lesson and you may see a bit more misdirection from the OU offense in the future. Also, I believe the head defensive coach will use this to teach his boys a thing or two about staying home and playing your position.
All, in all, I'm as satisfied with this defeat as one can be with a defeat. OU showed remarkable poise coming back to a near-win and it could have gone either way. These were two very evenly matched teams. This is the youngest most least experienced team Stoops has coached and they have shown remarkable poise this year. OU will be back next year and I fully expect them to finish undefeated winning another national championship. (Assuming they can find a QB.)
If it wasn't for instant replay, I still wouldn't be sure what happened in the last quarter and OT.
I don't think I have ever spent that much time with my jaw on the floor.
A game I will always remember.
