Krispy Kremes are overrated. Nothing beats an Old Fashioned Maple Glazed. From a mom & pop shop...

Good Afternoon, Ms. Feather.

Got your emergency supplies all laid in?

Yeah, but Krispy Kremes are the stores that are open past noon. Shift work with fresh donuts... brings back memories.

"... I hear a lot of stories of the burners going on fire!"

Really? Well, you're not supposed to make a wood stove out of wood, you know.

We have kerosene heaters, a fireplace insert, and electric space heaters. If things get really bad I may fire up the furnace.

I really wanted to go too, but bittygirl is not old enough. You have to be at least 8 to spend the night at NASA. It's just as well, because with the freezing weather someone needed to stay home and take care of tweedledee and tweedledum. Umm, I mean The Hoover Squad Chelsea and Sadie.

The Manse, has a huge boiler in the basement-steam heat-wonderful stuff.

Ugh, burning wood can be a tough one. Been there done that.

Best thing I like about using wood is that it gets delivered free.

I have fallen branches all about.

Er... who said anything about timber stoves, I meant they can cause fires.

Oh for sure. It does smell wonderful in the crisp cold air.

Spent my childhood in the sticks, we had two stoves. One burned coal and one wood until it got very cold then went to coal for both.

Increasing popularity over here for outdoor wood furnaces.

Erect them in your yard, and run underground heat pipes to the house. Fuel source is usually wood, but coal or gas is an option.

I like the idea, but I would have to engineer my own. I'd build it with a solar component. In milder seasons with sunny days, solar input should be sufficient to carry you.

Then when the weather turns nippy, just fire up the wood burner, and build up a big head of heat.

You can use them for domestic hot water as well as heat.
