Durham, North Carolina is so liberal it has justifiably been called the Massachusetts of the South. Earlier this year, in the so-called Lacrosse Rape Case, we had a corrupt Democratic District Attorney named Mike Nifong, indict a white man on charges of raping a black woman. The politics mattered more than whether the guy actually committed the crime. It was one of those circumstances where justice was subverted in the pursuit of a politically correct agenda - with all too predictable consequences.

And Nifong was re-elected.

Hard to get Justice in this country any more.

We have this rape case and then we have the conviction of two Border Patrol agents who were convicted and sentenced.

Travesties both of them.

I suppose as a Democrat, Nifong is immune from a charge of prosecutorial misconduct.

We will get another big clue on December 15th as to what is going on in NC.

If Oz does nothing to stop this ridiculous farce, we'll know the fix has to be in and convictions are in the works, imo.

" (1) He could grant a defense motion to force Nifong's refusal from the case"

Possibly a minor error. It should probably read "to force Nifong's recusal from the case" instead of refusal. I wonder if this was a miss during the "spell check." (Like what happens to me)

Do you think you can get in? I would imagine media will have the place surrounded and take every available seat.

After the Ed Bradley "60 Minutes" piece, it's all but inconceivable that these guys could possibly get convicted of anything.

Even in the highly unlikely event that any jury actually would unanimously vote to convict them, it would be guaranteed to be overturned on appeal.

liberals and leftists can be counted on for one thing....always backing their guy, no matter what, the idealism that they tout be damned.....

I agree that unless this case is thrown out, these young men will be convicted by a racist Durham jury......

its baffling....its unreal.....

there are no good Rats...remember that...

I recently read that, as of now, Nifong still has not interviewed the accuser, the witness who exonerates the students, OR the indicted students. Methinks Mr. Nifong is guilty of perpetuating a phony criminal case for personal emolument. Civil, criminal and professional sanctions can be imposed for such activity. Some North Carolina attorney should write to the Grievance Committee.

I think Nifong would be just as happy with a hung jury.

You're probably right about the appeal, but I think you're too optimistic about the acquittal, at least in the event the trial isn't moved out of Durham.

The grievance committee has the complaints.

They have shelved them until the case is concluded. That, of course, just encourages Liefong to drag it out. The defense attorneys and other complainants should be making a stink about this.
