I don't think Republicans even vote for Speaker. Only the majority party gets a chance.
The entire congress votes for Speaker. The Majority Leader and Whip are party only votes.
I disagree - let the Dems nominate the most shrill, liberal person they can for the job. Then we'll paint a caricature of the whole party based upon her conduct.
As my rep Pascrell is a Murtha dog I can't help.
oh, right....NOT vote for the first WOMAN Speaker....yeah right.
It would be funny, but the Left doesn't have anyone with big enough stones for a stunt like that......or anything else.
The "Nancy Boys" will all bend over for her.
Oh. Sorry. Guess I need to read up on some of my politics stuff. Please accept my apology.
The entire congress has a serious responsibility in selecting the Speaker, because that person becomes third in line for the office of President of the United States. It would certainly be worthwhile for Republicans to make at least some effort to aid in electing someone more appropriate than Pelosi.
Well Hoyer is going to win the Majority Leader Position. That should show that Pelosi is out of favor right off the bat. If Hoyer wins, I think someone else would step up to challenge her. At least I hope so.
You are correct. The Speaker need not even be a member of Congress. Maybe we'll get Dean!
Not true. Both the DemocRATS and Republicans nominate a candidate for Speaker. Then they normally have a straight line partisan vote, and the majority party's nominee wins.
No they don't. Get Joe Stalin up there as the face of the D party. Let the American Public, who's more concerned about who's going to get voted off Dancing With The Stars or Skating With Apes than Who's Running Our Country, get an unmistakeable look at the D party, when their "programs" are interupted by a news break.

If what I just wrote made you sad or angry,
it was probably just a joke.
I think one reason we lost on the war issue was that the POTUS never in his speeches or daily briefings showed or told the good things our troops did/are doing in Iraq...draining swamps flooded by Saddaam and returning those areas into productive land, building and repairing schools and hospitals, restoring power...etc. A few pictures or videos of the good our troops are doing would have had greater impact than the silence we got.

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
