Good one! I can just *see* his family and also see him hand-over-hand hauling in the trot lines - and all the floats or plastic milk jugs bobbin' around in his part of the "river".

I suppose besides muskrats, he was catching rabbits with those traps, but probably coons and possums, too - for the gumbo - and maybe an occasional nasty nutria. But then, that *might* be what he was calling a "lady mink."

While I *almost* always stand for Dixie when it's played, I just remembered several times when I didn't.

On the Dukes of Hazzard, when the horn on the General Lee played it. I kept forgetting.

Also yet another of the Southern top 100 written by a Yankee.

Just like States Rights and Southern Secession, you're wrong again.

Down To The River To Pray is a folk or traditional song.

folk song - a song of the common people of a country or region that reflects their life style

I doubt that any damnyankee had any input to this song especially since there ain't no F words in it not to mention that being baptized in a river ain't exactly something that you picture a bunch of damnyankees doing.

Of course, if Lincoln had 'believed' that it was written by a yankee then...........

I suppose some damnyankee carpetbagger taught Earl Scruggs how to play banjo, too.

Get Off This Thread, You Big Dope!

I believe this is the one they're talking about.

The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down>

Virgil Caine is the name and I served on the Danville train
'Til Stoneman's cavalry came and tore up the tracks again
In the winter of '65, we were hungry, just barely alive
By May the tenth, Richmond had fell, it's a time I remember oh so well

The night they drove Old Dixie down and the bells were ringing
The night they drove Old Dixie down and the people were singin', they went
La-la-la la-la-la, la-la-la la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Back with my wife in Tennessee, when one day she called to me
"Virgil, quick, come see, there goes Robert E. Lee!"
Now I don't mind choppin' wood, and I don't care if the money's no good
Ya take what ya need and ya leave the rest
But they should never have taken the very best

The night they drove old Dixie down and the bells were ringing
The night they drove old Dixie down and all the people were singin', they went
Na-na-na na-na-na, na-na-na na-na-na, na-na-na-na

Like my father before me, I will work the land
And like my brother before me, who took a rebel stand
He was just eighteen, proud and brave
But a Yankee laid him in his grave
I swear by the mud below my feet
You can't raise a Caine back up when he's in defeat

The night they drove old Dixie oown and the bells were ringing
The night they drove old Dixie down and all the people were singin', they went
Na-na-na na-na-na, na-na-na na-na-na, na-na-na-na

The night they drove old Dixie down and all the bells were ringing
The night they drove old Dixie down and the people were singin', they went
Na-na-na na-na-na, na-na-na na-na-na, na-na-na-na

Now back off before I have to open up a can of Rebel Whup Ass on you.

that means nothing. wee willie klintoon also says that he LOVES dixie!

DIShonest abe & wee willie are TWINS, separated by 150 years. NEITHER was a decent person/POTUS. EITHER would do/say ANYTHING to get ahead.

if 3% of the voters decided to become cannibals, BOTH would have mailed out "White House recipes" for eating people.

Good ole Rocky Top you'll always be Second in the SEC!

Not so last basketball season, at least in the SEC East. Y'all won the national championship, but we got the sweep and won the East.

Classic artwork. I got to meet Danny Joe Brown when the boys played a show years ago. They have that barefoot, foot stompin', old Florida Southern sound like the Outlaws, Skynyrd, Blackfoot.
