I know how most of us here would respond, but how the new gov't will respond I've not a clue. "Dubya" can order a immediate reaction but the follow through will depend on funding and resolve from people without any integrity at all...."Interesting Times"

Deserves repeating.

How long, do you think, before those who asserted "there's no difference between the two parties" change their minds?

Depends on their degree of personal cut-off-my-nose-to-spite-my-face stubbornness.

This is the issue that has been hammered heavily in recent months in Christian circles. They're no longer taking the deceptive or ignorant prattle of so-called conservative talksters like Rush, Medved, or Hannity, that are foolishly telling them that it isn't so, and dismissing it as 'conspiracy theory.'

As I've said before, conservatives can no longer afford to wear rose-colored glasses (or pay heed to those who do) ... not at this do-or-die point in our history.

Thanks for the excellent insights.

Joanie-f, please add my name to your "small handful of remaining FReepers who share your view." I'd be honored ... I've been at this for close to 50 years now, and I can't recall a time when I ever felt this frustrated ... Today our country is teetering on the brink and the pain I feel in my gut is excruciating. FR is my/our last refuge.

I sadly agree with every word, and feel the same frustration and agony. Will gladly ping you to future posts. Thanks for the kind words.

Williams' suggestion is a good one that will never fly. Its underlying presumption is the striving for equality of opportunity rather than equality of outcome (no matter the effort expended). And we can't have that, don't you know?

I understand your turning off Hannity tonight. I attempted to watch FoxNews today, for all of about fifteen minutes. Had to turn it off when Pelosi appeared. Today my house was officially declared a gloat-free zone.

Thanks for the excellent and spot-on comments.

Good to hear from you, if sad to know that you agree.

Your relatively short, heartfelt post here is among the most hard-hitting, well-formulated posts I have read in recent memory. Your common sense arguments are compelling, and there isn’t a word contained in them with which I disagree.

You also made a very powerful and far-reaching observation that I had never considered: Leaders matter. Perhaps socialists can implement their agenda without great leaders, but Conservatives can not.

So very true, and so tragically overlooked. Between now and 2008 we conservatives will be searching high and low for someone who can take on the menacing, and ever-emboldened, forces that threaten us from within, and outside of, our borders. Considering the perilous state of our republic, nothing less than another Reagan will do (and yet who of that caliber is out there?)

On the other hand, the socialist steamroller has the momentum, and all it will take to retain it is a handful of useful idiots in leadership positions to grease the gears now and then.

Sincere thanks for your contribution on this thread. You have provided me, and others, much food for thought.

Your excellent response requires a larger number of functioning brain cells than I possess at the moment (it being nearly midnight). I'll be back tomorrow. Promise. :)

Thanks, Mia.

Because he's a moron plain and simple. I have tried to convince myself that I'm wrong but nothing that has transpired lately has changed that view.

We all are screwed plain and simple. The only silver lining I see to this, is the simpletons who think that if we play nice to the Muslims they won't attack us, live in the cities that will be the first to go. Alot of people are going to die because of this election.

How will they do that? The formally illegals will insure a permanent dem majority. Of course thats provided that this country lasts until the next election unscathed

"Alot of people are going to die because of this election."

We were going to see another large attack again regardless of this election. That's the reason for "Arab Road" on the border.

Alot of people are going to die because of PC from both parties and a lack of any regard for America and Americans. We're just taxpayers to them. Not one thing more.

I've always said that our job is not to win.

And there you have it. The difference between self proclaimed True Conservatives, and those who work without fanfare to advance conservatism within the process.

This is a setback, but your phoney 'true' brand is outnumbered by those who have a clue, and conservatism will succeed in spite of you.

"This is a setback, but your phoney 'true' brand is outnumbered by those who have a clue, and conservatism will succeed in spite of you."

Conservatism will never be advanced by people who don't believe in it - and the leadership of the Republican Party doesn't believe in it. Not only do they not understand "conservatism", but they don't like their conservative voters much at all. They don't care what we think of them - only what the media and Dems think of them. That's why they often support liberal policies.

That's why our debt has grown $2 trillion and this new entitlement (part D) to buy the votes of people who didn't vote for them anyway will cost $8 trillion. It explains the billions for tribute (aid to Africa, aid to Muslim nations), but not one penny for defense (border and immigration control).

Define "conservative". What are YOU trying to conserve? A Republican majority? The REPUBLICANS didn't want that. This election was ENTIRELY their's to lose. They FAILED to communicate. They SURRENDERED every debate. Don't blame conservatives for this. Place the blame where it belongs.

It is impossible to read your screen name, and not remember the harm Powell brought to his own party. It's a good fit for you.

"It is impossible to read your screen name, and not remember the harm Powell brought to his own party. It's a good fit for you."

He told the truth. The leadership of this party were cowards - politically-correct cowards.

There you go again.... Blaming the victim for the crime.

"The leadership of this party were cowards"

should be

"The leadership of his party were cowards"

They still are cowards.

Sorry, but you are not a victim. You are a demanding spoiler who has no political maturity.

You sure showed us!

Good night.
