Nope - we are discussing whether Open Source is a good or bad thing. Golden has taken us off to a tangent and fails to draw the requisite link...

I'm pretty sure anyone can get the source code of a government computer program via an FOIA request.

One more thing: for actually government-produced work, that FOIA request would get redacted results for anything considered damaging to the interests of national security if released. IOW, Pink Boobie has no argument here. He just thinks that any program release is dangerous to our national security, no matter how mundane.

Does this mean that me running Linux equates with espousing communism?

Ol' Buzzy always pulls this "Linux == Communism" bullcrap so he can whore for the rabid Leftists of Redmond.

The whole idea is absurd. And I'm sure it's gotta chap ol' Buzzy's ass to know that our very own National Security Agency does not share his Pollyannic view of Micro$lop's crapware.

I have noticed when he gets backed into a corner - he either starts calling the other side leftists or refuses to answer. I think I summed up his argument pretty well a few posts back - with all its flaws.

No all you did is once again admit you fully support the giveaway of advanced technology from the US government to everyone on earth including enemy nations. You seem determined to defend those giveaways so long as in your opinion it isn't a complete system, an analogy being you wouldn't care if we gave away nuclear missiles either so long as the ship they were launched from wasn't thrown in as a bonus. You think just because some foreigner created a clone of our already existing and superior products to serve as a vehicle for shared technology across the world we should start putting all of our own advanced workings in there for everyone in the world to use for free instead of keeping those privileged and for our own individual advancement and profit. Your giveaways reak of Jimmy Carter-like thinking, and I'm much more of a Reaganite, if you ever even heard of the two.

Yup. That sums it up to a tee. I had a long, drawn-out convo with him some months ago and he really showed his ignorance on issues pertaining to cryptography. When I pointed out his obvious errors, he tried to claim that he was "making a joke." Bah. The only joke in the equation was him and his folly.

Obviously you were the joke and still are if you still support the Jimmy Carterish giveaways of our government's technology to America's enemies.

Obviously you were the joke...

Still talking to yourself, I see.

And just what do you think you're doing, always ragging on the very OS that Free Republic runs on? For shame, Buzzy. For shame!

Now shoo, little boy. I hear your mother calling.

I've never had anyone from this site post anything contradictory and obviously I've been allowed to keep posting. It's not like I made anything up, articles like the parent have existed for years, there are obvious leftists associated with open source and those that defend them are either ignorant of the facts or are leftists themselves. Just because you use open source, as we all do, doesn't make you a leftist, it's denying any connection exists, and insulting conservatives who speak about it that makes you a leftist. Or ignorant, as I said.

We are either leftists or ignorant, yet you can't answer simple questions on what you feel the actual harm done by Open Source is????? I ask you again - did Open Source force the NSA to release their small contribution?

Huh? I thought you weren't talking to me anymore, and why should you, since you've already admitted back in post #12 you don't care if we give technology away or not. Of course it wasn't a forced giveaway, it was some ignorant person or persons who didn't care if we give technology away to our enemies or not. Have you ever been around our government? Do you somehow think there aren't any leftists in the government? Do you even understand what the word "conservative" means? Do you think it means giving technology to your enemies?

You answer a question for once LOL. There's no tap dance on earth that can pull off "conservative" = "giving stuff away".

We are either leftists or ignorant

Well you sure do seem to be making a habit of defending them on other threads, in addition to this one!

I don't think he is a leftist.

Phelps is a Democrat?

I don't think he is helping the left

it does little to help the left-wing...if at all.

is not a leftist plot.

All from the last 2 days! LMAO!

Because I don't think Fred Phelps is a leftist that makes me a leftist? You'll have to do more than that.

But please answer the question above. How did Open Souce cause the inclusion of the small amount of code contributed by the NSA that you are all upset about?

Remember you are attacking open source - so I want you to articulate how open source is the problem and what you would do to stop it. You have halfway said it, but without closing the deal. I am giving you an opening - close it.

You still haven't explained how N Korea can run all those clusters without electricity.

I am going to revisit this. After voting today and having to fight the screen to make sure my vote counted for my candidate, I am a pure open source advocate in any source code controling vital functions. I want the public to examine and determine how the program runs....it is too vital to leave it closed up.
