One PR person for a championship-winning driver declared that the driver had no influence over his fans, which ought to be news to his myriad sponsors. Others tried to reason that their drivers were too young. One suggested his guy was just too dumb to really comprehend the subject. I appreciated the off-the-record honesty there. I know who that is!!

Some claimed their driver was just too busy. A bunch ignored multiple emails and phone messages. As a group, everyone was running for the hills.

Only Earnhardt was willing to stand up and say anything. He said he doesn't view the flag the way some of his fans do, but considering he has millions of fans of all makes, shapes and political persuasions, he can't expect to agree with all of them on anything. Heck, some of them might even drink Miller Lite.

Ahhh once again, thanks Jr for being a stand up guy and not hiding behind your PR guy.

As far as the ratings being down.......well that's a long story but I'll make it short, but it began in a land far far away by a sandy beach in a town named Daytona. The evil boy knight assumed leadership from daddy. He then decided he would sanitize the kingdom, make the drivers become panty waists and whiners. The rules would be hidden more than ever, consistency was abandoned. The cars will eventually become boxes and the parts will be handed out by his henchmen.......the ending hasn't been written yet. But it won't be a happy ending I fear.

Yep. And if anybody had to say anything, I think Jr. put it right. I think there's some of the old man in the kid.

Well, to get back to the subject, nascar's gotta reach out to those black liberal arts professorettes... the next gen of racing fans... an untapped demographic! Suppose she'll buy a shirt now?

This PC crap will destroy our country far quicker than any flag.

I think the old man would have said, "Flag...I don't see no stinking flag" and walked away.

Your retort shows that you are joining the group called, "The elderly". How do I know this? I am already a member.

Did you warn Pete about the snow storm on Donner?

He is better in touch than we are. I've tried to update him about accidents, fire closures, ice storms, con trails, e-coli, swamp gas and/or nascar. He always already has 10 times the info that I was about to tell him... like there's anything else to do across Nevada than listen to XM, scanner, cb and cell. Mmmmm?

they just hate us as a people. They hate our heritage, our history, our loyalty to our decendants.

I dont think that folks from the north HATE southerners. I believe that many of them DON'T UNDERSTAND the South. They dont understand the culture and the pride. The South is not just a geographic area... in many ways it's a way of life-- a lot of big city Yankees don't realize that. You can't tar every person from the North with the same bursh and say 'we hate you'- thats not true at all!

Keep in mind, this article was probably written by some liberal that lives on the upper west side of Manhattan. The closest that the author of the article has even gotten to being in the country was at some mock 'dude ranch' in Northern New Jersey 45 minutes outside on Manhattan. The big city types will make most of the noise about the flag.

Consider the source from the article and don't think that all of us Yanks 'hate ya'. I went to the NASCAR Pocono 500 back in the spring in Pennsylvania. There were plenty of people that had Rebel flags on their trucks and Campers. Did it bother me? Absolutly Not! The group parked next to me was from North Carolina and had one on their SUV. The group I was with chatted with them and we had a few beers together before we headed to the stands- The flag was a non issue and it was not discussed with them.

I could be wrong, but I think I recall seeing a few of the hip-hop bozo's on the TV before the last Daytona 500.

Hell, it does not matter to me what color or race the guy sitting next to me is at any sporting event. As long as a person acts civil and wants to have a good time... they are welcome at any event whether it be football, hockey, baseball, or NASCAR.

EXACTLY right.

That the author of the article refers to the battle flag as the Stars and Bars sure is indicative of the quality of the article.

Of course not, but there's been several articles lately on this subject and it's the same old tripe. Even conservatives on this site argue that since the flag was used by racist groups and is offensive to some that we should abandon it for the sake of tolerance. It seems that all the liberals and the others who have a serious problem with that flag think that if we'd just abandon it, that all the world would be a better place and we would all hold hands and sing kumbaya.

I just know better.

"A year ago NASCAR CEO Brian France condemned the flag on "60 Minutes" and reiterated his company's "commitment to diversity."

Or perhaps they should go with the flag color of the CEO's last name (France, white flag). Herein lies the problem, too many people are too willing to lay down for this PC crap. PC is nothing more than deceitful form of Communism at its best "state sanctioned speech and thought." I am of Scotch/Irish descent, do ya think I should be offended by the British flag? I can care less about who flies it. What stupidity has possessed American's to the point they are willing to let freedom of expression fall by the wayside? I have a Confederate Battle Flag bumper sticker that states "Keep It Flying", and I whole-heartedly mean that. I didn't spend Twenty-years in the military defending the Constitution just to have it yanked out from under me by some dirt-bags who don't have enough spine to stand up and say "ENOUGH" to PC. I'm like rrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeallllllllly sorry the blacks endured slavery for about 200 years, reeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaallllllllly I am! But slavery ended a long time ago and one would think they'd move on. My race (the Irish)endured it for 700 years, so I'm fresh out of sympathy, in fact they can find it listed between sh*t and syphilis in Webster's. And that boys and girls, is my take on that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although I have no idea why you directed your comments to me—the words you quoted were not mine—I've no particular argument with anything you wrote.

Regardless, my point remains the same: Don't get all bent out of shape if your flag conveys a message other than the one you intended.

I have a Confederate Battle Flag bumper sticker that states "Keep It Flying", and I whole-heartedly mean that.

Keep it flying for what purpose?
