Oh, thought this was about America II, the mid-80's 12-metre yacht... ;>)
Ike built it with Americans for America.
US soldiers will be needed to protect US investements abroad.
For you there is no difference between Maryland on one side and Alberta or Chihuahua on the other.
And expanding the American Interstate system will not be built with American subcontractors and labor?
What is that Spanish/Australian consortium do, import construction equipment and labor from Spain and Australia. That would be economically stupid on their part.
But what the hey, just like a good DUmmie, you have your talking point for the day, without thinking things through.
I did not know that DUmmies are opposed to NAFTA and globalization. Maybe I should check their site.
It's the same argument against the minimum wage - it does absolutely nothing to increase anyone's 'living wage'. It also impacts 'official' unemployment rates, because employers simply move to the blackmarket ie illegal immigrants.
They are, and A. Pole, IMO, you feel right at home there at DU.
So what happens when the wages are decreased few times because the work is being done in a Third World country?
"Let London manufacture those fine fabrics of hers to her heart's content; let Holland her chambrays; Florence her cloth; the Indies their beaver and vicuna; Milan her brocade, Italy and Flanders their linens...so long as our capital can enjoy them; the only thing it proves is that all nations train their journeymen for Madrid, and that Madrid is the queen of Parliaments, for all the world serves her and she serves nobody." (Prominent Spanish official - Alfonso Nunez de Castro in 1675)
Do you have some quotes and links, please?
That seems to be the trend. Of course, its never called that. Hard to get somebody to risk life and limb for some CEO's stock options.
LOL! Are you such a unionbot that you can't do it for yourself.
Gee how hard is it to go to Dogpile, Ask.com., Google, and type in the keywords, DemocratsUnderground.
Like I said A.Pole, you will find your home at DU, especially economically.
True, but opposing the interstate system at the time didn't necessarily mean they were against highways per se, there were some very valid reasons to oppose the manner in which the whole deal was sold. And federal highway money for repairs have long been used as a sort of club in which to beat the various states into legislative submission on certain issues, the template of pseudo-extortion.
Wait a minute. You said that you already have read it at DU.
Why don't you post what YOU have read? Or maybe you made it up and you want me to waste time in search for something that does not exist?
Have you been to maryland? :-)
Disclaimer. I was actually born in Baltimore, Maryland. And I actually like the place. I was just poking fun at their bizarre politics and inability to even run a simple primary election (for example).
And of course the parking lot that we call roads up here, because for some reason half the people in the area want to live in maryland and work in virginia, while the other half want to live in virginia and work in maryland.
Why don't you post what YOU have read? Or maybe you made it up and you want me to waste time in search for something that does not exist?
Per FR rules DU(DemocratsUnderground) posts and threads are generally frowned upon by FR's owner, especially in the news section of FR.
That said, that does stop me or you from looking at what the general economic/political sense is at DU.
Like I said A.Pole, IMO, you would find a more receiving audience for your marxist economics at DU.
How are wages decreased by shifting production overseas? If a US textile plant is closed where the prevailing wage was $20/hr, and moved to China where it is $2/hr, how have US wages dropped?
Former employees are no longer employed; we may have increased unemployment, but not "falling" wages. Now, the key questions are: is this unemployment permanent, and if not, what new jobs created as capital is freed up to pursue other opportunities?
This is why education/training are so important. For example, what happens if Toyota decides to open a mfg plant in the vicinity of the textile operations? (Which is happening all over the South.) Now our former textile worker is making $30/hr, but paying for jeans that only cost $2/hr to produce.
This, btw, is a short explanation of why real estate prices have increased so dramatically: low inflation=low interest rates + high job formation= asset appreciation in key geog sectors.
Same thing with Dockers. I have to make sure I get the ones made in Vietnam in my size because those made in Cambodia in my size don't fit.
Aaarrgh.
LOL! DUmmies are just as anti-NAFTA as you are. It's a fact. Sorry to burst your bubble.
