OMG! What a finale! Jack is not even my favorite character, but he ROCKED tonight! He owned it.

So I wonder how they go forward next season? It’s hard to imagine.

I shed some tears for Charlie—I was SO hoping that wasn’t going to happen.

GREAT show last night! As usual it left us with some questions. (1) Who’s funeral? (2) Kate mentioned a “he” at home (in the future), is it Sawyer or someone else? Speaking of Sawyer, I was surprised to see him shoot that man (can’t remember his name) in the chest. I know they had their issues with each other from Sawyer’s captivity, but was that really necessary? Poor Charlie ...

My only guess is that Desmond is going to warn them it’s not Penny’s boat and might be some type of trap.

But obviously they eventually do get off the island, maybe just not this time.

I think the whole Flash Forward is going to end up being one of Desmond’s premonitions, that may or may not happen, depending upon the actions of one or more of the characters. An alternate reality. Kinda like the one where we saw Desmond buy an engagement ring for Penny, but then the creepy lady in the store told him that he wasn’t supposed to do that, that it would change everything. I just don’t see how they could go on with the show if everybody gets off the island.

That is an excellent theory and one I’m going to run with.

The main thing that’s eating at my brain right now is, WHO was in that coffin?! I wonder if it was Ben, because when the funeral home guy asked Jack if he was friend or family he said “neither” and when Jack asked Kate if she went to the funeral she said “Why would I want to?”, so it had to be somebody that they both knew but didn’t really like. But then why was Jack so tore up over it. But it could’ve been Locke too, because he really didn’t have any friends or family either. So I don’t know. The whole thing was just one big question and I hate it that we’ve gotta wait so long for the answers!

My first thought was Ben and that Kate had to get back home because Sawyer would be waiting for her. But now I think it might be her kid waiting for her. She didn't mention pregnancy in the episode.

Here's a theory floating around about who is in the casket, based on some screencaps of the obit:

Jeremy Bentham (IPA: ['benθəm] or ['bentəm]) (February 15, 1748 O.S. (February 26, 1748 N.S.) – June 6, 1832) was an English jurist, philosopher, and legal and social reformer. He was a political radical and a leading theorist in Anglo-American philosophy of law. He is best known as an early advocate of utilitarianism and animal rights[1][2] who influenced the development of liberalism.

Bentham was one of the most influential utilitarians, partially through his writings but particularly through his students all around the world. These included his secretary and collaborator on the utilitarian school of philosophy James Mill, James Mill's son John Stuart Mill, and several political leaders (and Robert Owen, who later became a founder of socialism).

He argued in favour of individual and economic freedom, including:

Separation of church and state;
Freedom of expression;
Equal rights for women;
Animal rights;
Abolition of slavery;
Abolition of physical punishment (including that of children);
The right to divorce;
Free trade;
The defence of usury;[3] and
the Decriminalisation of sodomy[4]

He was in support of:
Inheritance tax;
Restrictions on monopoly power;
Pensions; and
Health insurance

That’s an interesting theory about the possibility of Kate having a child. I hadn’t thought about that.

As far as Jeremy Bentham goes, I can’t see what some 18th century philosopher has to do with Jack and Kate NOW...unless that name is an alias that someone else that they know has taken, for whatever reason. I also found it interesting that Jack tells Kate that he’s tired of lying. About WHAT? Sooooo many questions. Waaaaay too long to wait to get the answers!

The LOST Report

My Serious, Logical Thoughts on Through the Looking Glass

TITLE
This is yet another Alice in Wonderland reference, and we have seen several lately. It also refers to the underwater station. Interestingly this is also the name of an episode of Deep Space Nine season 3 episode 19. Benjamin Sisko is captured by an alternate Miles Obrien and taken to an alternate universe.

I had good vibrations about this episode from the previews, but after seeing it, I pray it does not turn into a show where they are all off the island, and we follow Jack around in the hospital all day. This is LOST not Greys Anatomy.

WHO IS IN THE COFFIN?
Jack reads an obituary of someone in the paper. When he goes to the viewing he finds that no one else has been there. Jack states that he is neither friend nor family. So why does he care, and who is in the coffin? First, let us take a closer look at the obituary in the paper. I cannot make out all the words, but I will quote the brilliant analysis of LOST fan ECKS_Nihilo. According to ECKS, here is what the obituary said. I leave out the guesses.

L O S _ A N G E L E S

MAN FOUND DEAD IN
DOWNTOWN LOFT

The body of Jeremy Bentham
of New York was found shortly after 4
a.m. in the west tower of Grand
Avenue.(end paragraph)
Ted *someone*, a doorman at The
Tower, reportedly heard loud
noises coming from the victim’s loft.
————————————————————safety, he
——————————————recovered the
-—— the man hanging from a beam in the
apartment.

I remember that Michael was from New York, but the name Jeremy Bentham means nothing. I do not recall anyone with a name resembling that. At first I thought it might be Locke or Ben in the coffin, but neither have that name. One possibility is that they might be using an alias, but my senses say no. It could be someone we have not met yet, and my senses tell me it must be someone connected to the island. Otherwise, why would Jack talk to Kate about it? But who is it? Kate says why would I go to the funeral? Now, you might think this is because Kate does not care at all about the person who died, but it might be because she is still on the run. The person who died most likely committed suicide. My best guess is that this person is someone we have not yet seen. Could it be the great man referred to by Mikail or even Jacob?

LOST SPINOFF SERIES: BENJAMIN LINUS, ISLAND DEFENDER
The OTHERS see themselves as the good guys because they are defending the island from those that mean it harm. Ben seems to make no distinction between the island and Jacob, as though Jacob is the spirit of the island. Their struggle against the bad guys reminds me of Greenpeace struggling against some evil corporation. We have a small group of people on the island who call themselves the good guys fighting against some large evil corporation. But who would the large evil corporation be? Widmore? And Widmore also is linked with DHARMA which would bring Alvar Hanso into it if he is still alive. The reason why the others killed DHARMA is because DHARMA worked with the Widmore that wanted to use the island for its own purposes – run experiments and stuff. Although the purpose of DHARMA seems to have been to save the world. The others viewed DHARMA as a threat to the island - not to mention trespassing. DHARMA failed but their research may have been taken over by another evil corporation that continues experiments on Pacific islands. Some of these experiments may be drug testing on human beings as is seen in the Utube video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLNJQR70f5c

The evil corporation may also be just Widmore. When Desmond was in the office of the father of Penelope, we saw the word Namaste on a picture in the room.

TIPS ON HOW TO STAY ALIVE IN A TV SHOW OR MOVIE
This episode had 13 confirmed kills, 1 possible drowning and 1 viewing of someone. This also marks the greatest one day casualty count that the LOSTaways have every inflicted on the others. The dead include: Bonnie, Greta, Ryan, Tom, Diane, Ivan and Naomi. The deaths of Bonnie and Greta are two classic cases that I would like to comment on. How many times have you seen a movie or TV show in which a character discovers some important information? It may be a cure, an invention, information about a crime and so forth. Now this person goes to one of their friends or maybe their boss and unwisely tells them this information. And then the classic, the boss or friend says: Does anyone else know about this? In which case the unsuspecting person says no and is then promptly killed by the boss\friend. I have seen this everywhere. In movies such as No Way Out with Kevin Costner and TV shows such as Dark Angel. There is a really classic one in which Nana Visitor shoots one of her own scientists. Classic.
The lesson is clear. If you are in a movie or TV show and you uncover some secret information do not tell anybody! And if you do, and they ask you: Does anyone else know about this? You say yes! I have told everyone in the building, and it will be on Entertainment tonight.
Now, in this episode we see a variation of this when Mikail asks Bonnie and Greta if they are the only two besides Ben who know the code. They say yes and then are killed. They made the classic mistake. They should have told Mikail that there was a fourth person who knew the code.

THE GREATEST UKRANIAN HERO
Mikail has now been killed at least twice, once by a super sonic weapon and now by taking a spear to the heart. Somehow he is still able to swim underwater get a grenade and blow up the window. How? Mikail must have super healing powers like Locke has.

THE INCREDIBLE MISTER LOCKE
Locke survived because he has super healing powers like we saw with his hand. His healing power extends far beyond his legs. He did not see Walt but a representation of Walt. It was the island appearing before Locke in the form of Walt. I am convinced that it is the smokey monster that can change forms, and the smokey monster may indeed be Jacob.

WHY JACK WANTS TO RETURN TO THE ISLAND
This is what might have happened. They were rescued. After returning however, the survivors started to die and experience misfortune. Jack realizes that they were supposed to be on the island. Perhaps Jacob was even able to communicate this to Jack. Other survivors also came to this conclusion and killed themselves.
Or how about this: After being rescued, Jack discovers that an evil corporation has taken over the island and is using it to run nefarious experiments. He knows it is his fault that people are being experimented on and killed.

BORN TO BE MILD
In the flash forward, were the charges against Kate dropped or is she still on the run? In the parking Lot with Kate and Jack, Kate says that he will be wondering where I am. Who will be wondering? Sawyer? What does she see in that guy? Kate may not want Sawyer to see her with Jack given the past history. Ever get the feeling that you are only seeing part of a story and a lot of stuff is being left out? You feel that way too? Yes, Im there.

GIVE ME THAT OLD ISLAND RELIGION
Ever notice how Locke and Ben have an almost religious devotion to the island? Did you notice that Ben tells Alpert to lead the others to the temple – again another religious reference. The temples is a very old place. Ancients may also have worshipped there, their remains being seen by Sayid and others on the boat as they saw the four-toed statue. Ben says that everything he has done he has done for the island. Quite a devotion.

THE DEATH OF CHARLIE PACE
All I can say is that no greater love has a man than that he lay down his life for his friends.

ALEX DANIELLE REUNION
After 16 long years, mother and daughter meet. I predicted that this would happen quite some time ago and it is good to be vindicated. Kind of funny that the first thing that Danielle says to her daughter is will you help me tie him up?

WHO IS STILL ON THE ISLAND AND WHY
Bernard and Rose – Rose has a cancer that can only be cured by the island. They are not going anywhere.
Locke – The life of Locke is totally caught up in the island. He is like a priest to the island religion. He aint going anywhere.
Rousseau and Alex – there is no place for her in society now. Alex has never known another home and besides, she would have to change schools, and we all know what a hassle that is. As the saying goes: A mans home is his hassle.
Ben and the others – Ben is either dead or escaped and living on the island. The others know how to hide.

OTHER RAMBLINGS
When Sawyer shoots Tom, he says it is for taking the kid from the boat meaning the Walt kidnapping. Also this fulfills what Sawyer had previously said when he first encountered Tom and said to him: This aint over Zeke. Well, now it is over.
How about a flashback scene when Rousseau or the Black Rock came to the island? I would love to see either of these episodes. Anyone else?
Ben is like Locke in that they both are looking out for the interests of the island. We have not seen this side of Locke for a real long time so it is great to see the mystery man back. Notice Ben is telling Locke to kill Jack like they are on the same team.
If Jack realizes that Ben was right and that they were not supposed to leave the island, the scary thing is that Jack could make it back to the island with people of his own and become the new OTHERS. Then the series ends with another plane crash, and Jack giving orders to go infiltrate the survivors. Scary thought is it not?
Doctor Hamil is played by the same actor who starred in the TV show Las Vegas along with the actress who played Naomi.
Why did Jack say get my dad down here and if he is drunker than me you can fire him? Was his dad dead? Yes, but recall Jack was affected by booze and drugs. Do not fall for the trap of thinking that his father is really alive.
Penny should have known about the boat, but seems to have no idea of it when talking to Charlie. That means that Ben was telling the truth.
When Walt appears to Locke, you can tell that Walt has aged several years and even his voice sounds older than the young screaming Walt who got kidnapped on that raft. But hey, it is only an apparition right? The island can appear in any form it wants. The island just happened to choose to show Walt a little older. It could happen.
For those wondering why Jack always looks so clean shaven, his beard finally caught with him after he left the island. Let us say that the healing power of Jack on the island was in not growing a beard. But when he left the island the hair all grew in. Hey, it could happen.
In the science versus faith argument – faith won! Jack has no scientific reason for returning to the island.
Jack flies Oceanic after having received a golden pass. However, according to www.oceanic-air.com, the airline has ceased all services, although this may have been only a temporary thing.
The comment Kate gave to Jack about still pulling people out of burning wreckage is a reference to the original plane crash.
Notice how well the others know the LOSTaways. They know them all by name and even refer to Bernard as the dentist. That assumes a high degree of familiarity.
There is another biblical reference when Jack is compared to Moses by Naomi. Naomi is also a biblical name. In the credits, characters named Luke and Matthew are credited. Also biblical.
Ben lied about the looking glass being flooded to his own people thus again confirming his statement to Locke that many of the things he tells his people are lies.
Was Sarah pregnant?

The jamming code was put in by a musician. Who is the musician and how did Ben get the code?

Why are the others building a runway?

Ben says he did not want Karl to impregnate Alex. This is more than fatherly concern. Recall that getting pregnant on the island is a death sentence.

The island did save Locke as Ben referred when said I hope he can save you referring to Jacob. Jacob and the island are one.

Notice Locke was unable to kill his father but could kill Naomi.

The viewing was held at the Hoffs/Drawler funeral home.
If Jack wishes to return to the island, why does he not contact those who rescued him? Would the location of the island be not well known in this age of GPS? The press would have been all over a story like that.

WHERE WILL THE SHOW GO FROM HERE?
The LOSTaways may not be shown getting rescued in the fourth season premiere. It is possible that the rescuers are nothing but. If they are evil they will not rescue them and try to kill everyone as Ben suggests. That means that they do get off the island but not right now. But if they do get off the island, they will be forced not to talk about their experiences. Their rescue may even depend on swearing to secrecy. That is what Jack meant when he said I am tired of lying in the flash forward. They cannot talk about the others or the smokey monster or anything else on the island. I believe Ben when he says Naomi is one of the bad guys.

Season four may take place mostly off the island in which we see how they got rescued and how Jack takes his downward spiral. If so, they could easily spend a whole season doing that. I do not want to see a show where every main character has gone their own separate way on the mainland and then they all get together to all go back to the island alla Scooby Doo the movie.

I don’t think it’s so much the philospher himself that has meaning. Just the name. The Lost writers do have a thing for philosphers’ names. It could just be the name of a character we haven’t met yet.

Ok. Add me to your ping list please.

I got the DVD box set for season 1 as a Christmas present in 2006. I didn’t start watching it until May 2007. Then I finished season 1. Then season 2. Then season 3. I just got caught up last night. I’m ready for season 4.

Needless to say, I’m hooked.

Here’s an announcement about the replay of the end of Season 3 (source: http://www.abcmedianet.com/assets/pr%5Chtml/012408_05.html):

ABC PREMIERES A SPECIAL ENHANCED VERSION OF THE “LOST” SEASON THREE TWO-HOUR FINALE

Enhanced Version Includes On-Screen Facts and Back Story
Get ready for the Season Four premiere of “Lost” with a special presentation of the Season Three two-hour finale, “Through the Looking Glass,” enhanced with on-screen facts and back story about one of the most talked about dramas on television. Whether you already watched the amazing conclusion of “Lost” last season or this is your first time viewing it, the special enhanced “Lost” catches viewers up on the story of the Oceanic 815 survivors in a way you’ve never experienced before. Be there for the enhanced “Lost” Season Three finale, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 30 at 9:00 p.m., ET/PT on ABC.

The enhanced version of “Lost” will include text on the lower third of the screen and will “let viewers in” on clues in the show, as well as give back story to catch new viewers up for Season Four.

About Lost
With only 48 original episodes left until the final episode airs in 2010, this season truly is the beginning of the end, with the promise of rescue at hand. Jack has radioed a freighter stationed somewhere off the island. But when it’s disclosed that Charlie’s dying warning was that these people may not be who they say they are, the castaways are divided as to what to do. Jack is convinced that the freighter people are there to rescue them, while Locke is not. A split occurs among the survivors. Who is on the freighter? What was the significance of the flash-forward showing Jack and Kate off the island at some point in the future? What will the consequences be when the characters once again encounter Michael, who seemingly escaped the island after murdering two of the survivors? These are some of the questions “Lost” will explore during the action-packed fourth season.

The band of friends, family, enemies and strangers must continue to work together against the cruel weather and harsh terrain if they want to stay alive. But as they have discovered during their 90-plus days on the island, danger and mystery loom behind every corner, and those they thought could be trusted may turn against them. Even heroes have secrets.

“Lost” stars Naveen Andrews as Sayid, Henry Ian Cusick as Desmond, Emilie de Ravin as Claire, Michael Emerson as Ben, Matthew Fox as Jack, Jorge Garcia as Hurley, Josh Holloway as Sawyer, Daniel Dae Kim as Jin, Yunjin Kim as Sun, Evangeline Lilly as Kate, Elizabeth Mitchell as Juliet, Terry O’Quinn as Locke and Harold Perrineau as Michael.

“Lost” was created by Jeffrey Lieber and J.J. Abrams & Damon Lindelof. Abrams, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, Jack Bender and Carlton Cuse serve as executive producers. “Lost,” which is filmed entirely on location in Hawaii and premiered on September 22, 2004, is from ABC Studios.

Its not a spoiler. But it indicates that Season 4 is going to be a good one.
