I think Locke purposely blew up the hatch. He doesn't want to leave. I think this will become more clear in next week's Locke centric episode, the fear of being back in the wheel chair is too much for him to bear.
I think that the Others are Dharma, not the hostiles. I htink that Ben may be a hostile and took over the remianing Dharma Intiative folks. These people were recruited and had means to leave the island, but at some point had to be either brainwashed or believe in their cause.
Is it possible when Ben said he had lived on the island his whole life, he was speaking symbolically? Perhaps he experienced some kind of rebirth, or could he be a clone of the original leader who died from a cancerous tumor on his spine, bit was cloned and eventually the clone (Ben) developed the same cancerous tumor?
I guess we'll find out in two weeks.
BTW, GREAT JOB on the recaps!
I'm also 19.... ;p
Actually to clarify, I am a female and I'm 35. And, I get the recaps from a poster on the ABC message board (don't know his name), so I can't take the credit. But since they are so good, I have to share them...
The LOST Report
My Serious, Logical Thoughts on Par Avion
TITLE
Par Avion is French for an item being sent by air. The words Par Avion can often be seen on stickers on postage envelopes alongside the words airmail. In this episode, I think it refers to the father of Claire arriving from America.
another trademark eye opening sequence. This time by Claire.
HE IS NOT HEAVY. HE IS MY BROTHER
Well, the secret of Claire is out. She is the sister of Jack. They share the same father. We knew before that the father of Jack did have a secret in Australia when the father of Jack showed up in Sydney and tried to get into the house of a woman. He was arguing at the front door. He may have been arguing with Claire herself or her aunt. Check out the black hair on Claire.
SONIC WEAPONS
Sonic weapons are not unheard of. When a cruise ship was recently attacked off the coast of Somalia by pirates, the crew fired a sonic weapon at them. It was a non lethal weapon. I must say I have never seen a lethal sound weapon before. During World War II the Germans did experiments with sound weapons. They wanted to ring bells so loud that it would kill people. They only succeeded in killing some mice in a bathtub. Also, the sound wave had to be focused at or near Mikail. Otherwise, everybody who heard it would have died. Notice that the LOSTaways who heard the sound did not die. The others seem incredibly willing to give up their lives. Mikail even thanks Locke before dying. (note to self, a cool movie title would be: A Thank You Before Dying).
I hope the others have a good recruiter because they are losing members like crazy. Let me see if I can count the bodies. Charlie killed Ethan. Eko killed two with a rock, Ana Lucia killed a woman and Goodwin, Sawyer shot one, Sun shot one, Juliet killed Danny, Mikail shot Bea Klugh, and Mikail was killed by a sonic weapon. That is at least ten bodies in 80 days. What is their recruitment slogan? Join the others, positions opening daily? Also the others seem to show very little remorse for their lost comrades. The only remorse I have really seen is when Ben says: We had an excellent surgeon, his name was Ethan. Who is the person in charge that Mikail refers to? This great man, as Mikail says, is over Ben.
What is the deal with Locke? Why did he throw Mikail into the security system? By the way, the monster is also part of this security system I believe. The monster may be able to judge if you are good or bad; on the list or off of it.
What is the goal of the others? Why are they on the island? What are they trying to accomplish? When Mikail says that Kate is not on the list, and therefore could not comprehend the answer, I am reminded of a biblical principle that is: Many are called, few are chosen. The chosen ones have their name in a book called the Book of Life. If you name is in there, you are saved. We may be led to believe that Jack is on the list and that the others accept him. But LOST is known for misdirection. Black Rock anyone? Mikail kind of acts like Locke was on the list, but now is not. That is similar to the biblical idea of having your name blotted out of the Book of Life. If Kate is not on the list then why kidnap her? Sawyer was most probably not on the list either since they were going to kill him. Yet, Bea Klugh does give Michael a list of names of people that they want and their names were on the list.
SORRY CHARLIE
Desmond is kind of like the angel for Charlie. Interesting that he is so fiercely loyal to a guy he just met. Obviously Desmond had already seen the death of Charlie. This time by falling off a rock while getting a bird for Claire. He explains this to Charlie to keep him from going over there. Did he really mean to fire that gun and scare the birds away? Yes, I think so. So that he could simply pick up the bird later. He had already seen it in his visions.
CAR ACCIDENT
In a future episode, look for the truck driver that hit the car of Claire. It will be someone on the island or related to someone on the island. We saw a similar theme when the father of Boone was killed in a car accident. The other person in the car ends up marrying Jack later on.
JACK BE NIMBLE, JACK BE QUICK
The new Jack seems more friendly with the others while playing football with Tom. I see four reasons why:
1. It is a clone of Jack. Evidence comes from the boat the others were on when they took Walt. You see two men who look like identical twins.
2. Jack has been brainwashed. Evidence comes from the room that Karl was in. He was being drugged while being exposed to visual and auditory stimuli.
3. Jack is one of them. After having discovered the secret of the others, Jack has joined them because he realizes that they are the good guys. Evidence comes from among other things, the comment Ben made to Michael that they are the good guys, the woman on the boat who told Sun that they were not the enemy, the comment Cindy made when Jack asked her about her abduction. She said: They are not - it is not that simple.
4. Jack is humoring them. It may be that Jack is pretending to be one of the others now as a ruse to try to escape.
Of these choices. I like number four the best.
Next week, I will come to you from Las Vegas!
UNANSWERED QUESTIONS
How did Locke get the C4? The C4 was in the basement and Locke never went down there. Either there was more C4 upstairs or Locke went into the basement, and we did not see him.
Does Locke have a purpose for the C4 like blowing up otherville or does he just have it for whatever comes along?
THER RAMBLINGS
Mikail knows that John Locke was paralyzed. He starts to say this before he is cut off.
If you are not on the list then you are flawed. Flaws include: anger, fear and being weak.
How do the others know so much about the LOSTaways? If the others have contact with the outside world, then they have the passenger list for flight 815 and can find out all sorts of things about them.
Why is the island so difficult to find? The others need an underwater beacon to find it and without this beacon it is impossible to find the island. Ben also tells Michael that he will never find his way back here. Ben is unconcerned that Michael might try to come back with more people. It makes you think that there is some kind of cloaking shield around the island. What about satellites? Can the island be seen from space?
Q
Some more thoughts on last nights episode:
The sonic fence reminds me of an "invisible" dog fence. If you ran through it, it wouldn't have time to hurt you. Mikal just stood there. He even had time to say "thank you". Kate walked up to him as he lay there dead. His head wouldn't have wound up more than 6 feet from where he stood.
Another thought, wouldn't there be several dead animals lying along the fence line? hmmm
Maybe Mikail was exiled to the other side of the fence (murdered an Other?) and had an implant inserted into his head. Like a dog with a collar, he would be the only one affected by crossing the line. By the way, remember the conversation Sayid and Locke was having about getting rid of Mikail, and Sayid referred to Mikail as a dog; i.e. killing him like a dog. Its ironic that Locke said he likes dogs, but threw Mikail over the line. Hmmmm.
It seems to me to be a stupid way to keep out intruders. Why not just put up a real electric fence (like Jurassic Park).
The pylons reminded me of the forbidden zone on Planet of the Apes.
I'm feeling Sawyer deprived, but I want to know what happened to Locke. Do you think Lock's father is the "real" Sawwyer"?
Oh definitely the real Sawyer. There's no doubt in my mind.
Fingers cross we'll get a bit of side action from Sawyer tonight. Just because it's not his flashback, doesn't mean that have to leave him out completely!
The LOST Report
My Serious, Logical Thoughts on The Man from Tallahassee
Welcome to the LOST report coming to you live from LAS VEGAS, NV.
TITLE
The Man from Tallahassee refers to a reference made to the father of Locke. It is unclear if this is just a code or he really is from Tallahassee.
JACK AND THE OTHERS
So we learn that Jack has not actually joined the others but instead has made a deal with them, but thanks to Locke, Jack and Juliet cannot leave the island. Notice that Juliet is ok after having been put on trial.
DO NOT LOCKE ME OUT
We finally learn the cause of Locke being in a wheelchair, and this episode did not disappoint. Notice the tease at the beginning when Locke is sitting down asking for benefits. Chalk up another reason for Locke to hate his father who pushed him out of an 8 story window. We are led to believe that the man from Tallahassee did have something to do with the death of Peter because he had no qualms about killing his own son. Nice guy we got here. The coincidence of him now turning up on the island just defies explanation. It is about as likely as a chicken joint being hit by a meteor. Oh wait yeah. What will Locke do now? I think next weeks episode should start like this:
LOCKE: Ben, may I borrow a gun please? Thank you.
Then the episode could be over in less than one minute. Notice that the father of Locke is bleeding with fresh wounds. He probably objected to being tied up. The man who unlocked the door, Alpert, is the same man who helped recruit Juliet with Ethan. He also was on the TV show Suddenly Susan. This episode also puts to death other ideas about the paralyzation of Locke such as it was all in his mind. Nice idea but did not pan out.
BOX
The magical box spoken of by Ben cannot help but remind me of the box of Pandorra. Anybody else think that? His description of the box is remarkable and explains a great deal. Kate saw a horse, Hugo saw Dave, Jack saw his father and so forth. Not to mention the things people have heard in those whispering voices. I am also reminded of Walt seeing the polar bears in the comic book. This box has nothing to do with the magnetic anomaly since it is now destroyed, and what does this have to do with the monster? What does Ben mean when he says that the man from Tallahassee came out of the box? Did they wish for him? Could this box explain how a small plane from Africa ended up in the south pacific? Not to mention that it was carrying people known to Eko. Another improbable coincidence. I am reminded of the hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy which had an improbability drive. When you use it, the most unlikely thing that could happen, happens.
The box may also have some kind of psychic link to the user and be able to read thoughts. We saw many things from the past of Eko in the monster cloud. The monster was reading his thoughts and displaying them. Since we have seen this and we have the description of Ben of the box, I make the connection that the box links to the thoughts of the person to produce what they want. Why do they not wish for another submarine as Locke asks? Because Jack and Juliet would escape. And who is most suited to work the box than a man who worked at a box company! The monster cloud may also determine if someone is good or bad. Or as the others put it: on the list or off the list.
IS COOPER THE REAL SAWYER?
James carries a piece of paper around with him which tells of a con man named Sawyer who conned his parents which led to their deaths. EVIDENCE: Cooper is a con man. His age would make him old enough to do this con when James was a boy. Cooper has been known to change his name. Also due to the alarming number of coincidences on the island, this one would be no more unreasonable to any of the others. Now, James can finally have his revenge. That would make a nice flashback episode too.
THE RETURN OF THE SEASON ONE LOCKE
Finally, we got a small glimpse of the season one Locke. The mysterious guy with the connection to the island. Ben refers to this connection in his conversation with him. Season one Locke is so much better than the season two pushing the button Locke. Season three Locke is ok. Why does Locke have a connection to the island? It could be something in his DNA or what if one of his ancestors had been on that island? Since we have seen the coincidences of people showing up on the island who are linked to other people on the island, it is not too far a stretch to guess that a Locke ancestor could have been on the island before. It may have been even Cooper himself. Cooper may have come to the island to hide from authorities. But he would have to know how to get there.
THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO HMMM
The drink that Cooper pours when Locke confronts him. Is that Mccutheon brand? It is a very rare brand. It was used by Mr. Widmore who we know has a connection to the island.
Great to see Danielle finally see Alex. Now let us have a reunion!
How can Ben be the father of Alex? If Danielle crashed on the island and she is the mother and Ben was born on the island then how? Also Did not Danielle say she shot her husband? Ben must consider himself the father only.
Ben says that the others are willing to defend the island. Defend what? The box?
The DHARMA brand stuff in the refrigerator of Ben. Mikail said they went to war with DHARMA and they are not DHARMA. Are they then just mooching their stuff?
Locke fell 8 stories. 8 is a Hurley number.
MY TRIP TO VEGAS
Before I go, I have to tell you about this hotel room I got here in Vegas. It has two beds, two TVs, a phone in the bathroom, gold faucets, some stairs and so forth. They even put these chocolates on your pillow each evening. Luxurious kind too. I had a great time talking to aliens at the star trek themed hotel out here.
Q
I cannot wait for the next Sawyer-centric episode. Hopefully he'll meet Cooper!
I totally forgot that Lost was on last night. DOH! What did I miss?
My Serious, Logical Thoughts on Expose
Greetings and welcome to the LOST report. Today it is expose (exposay). This was a really great episode. The cool part was seeing what Nikki and Paulo did behind the scenes and also seeing the scenes we saw them in before but now from a different perspective.
TITLE
Refers to the TV show in which Nikki was a guest star. Notice the comment she makes that we know what happens to guest stars. This may be an inside joke as we all know what happened to characters on LOST such as Eko, Ana Lucia and Libby. The comment made by Howie that they could have her wear a bullet proof vest echoes what some of us wanted to do with Shannon when she was shot. The TV show expose was filmed in Sydney as other shows such as Water Rats are. Since Hurley had seen this show, it obviously had made its way to the USA, but that is usually a slow process, so Hurley most probably did not see the episodes during their first run, and probably never saw Nikki in an episode. She was only a guest star. The show seemed to be set in Saint Paul Mn. Also in that show the identity of the Cobra has been shrouded in mystery for 4 seasons. This is similar to LOST because there is some mysterious guy who is in charge of THE OTHERS. Does this mean that his identity will be revealed in the 4th season?
FLASHBACKS
The flashback scenes were just awesome in this episode. We got to see Boone, Shannon, Ethan and Arzt again. All dead now. In the scene at the airport Nikki and Paulo meet Boone and Shannon and Paulo says let us not end up like them. But soon all four would be dead. It was also great to see scenes from past episodes now shown with the Nikki, Arzt and Paulo in them. Since they joined the cast more recently, they were not there when these episodes were filmed, and I think they did a great job of splicing them in. Notice that the tote bag with the diamonds says expose on it.
SAWYER AND NAMES
Why does Sawyer not know the name of Nikki? They have been on the island for over 80 days now. It is a close knit community. This is not the first time we have seen this. During the ping pong game with Hurley in which Sawyer bet for his stash back he also said to Nikki who are you? Could this mean that Nikki and Paulo were staying away from the rest of the camp looking for the bag? Still, Nikki did know the name Sawyer.
THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO HMMM
Paulo is from Brazil. They speak Portuguese in Brazil which is the same language that the two guys in the bunker were speaking when they detected the electromagnetic anomaly. Mean something? Mean nothing?
Just after the scene where Howie was poisoned, they cut back to the island where we see the paralyzed Nikki and Sun says maybe she was poisoned, putting this idea of poisoning into our minds so we would not think of what really happened. I was not fooled and figured out the insect bite.
Nikki and Paulo discovered the Pearl hatch before anyone else.
Paulo knew about THE OTHERS and heard about their plan for Jack, yet he told no one. Paulo also knew that Ben was one of THE OTHERS, yet when Ben was captured, Paulo does not come forward with this information. All of this indicates that Paulo and Nikki were keeping a low profile. They did not want anyone to know about the diamonds. This is not the first time this has been done. On the Titanic, a wealthy family traveled in 3rd class (steerage) so that no one would suspect that their luggage was actually filled with diamonds. 3rd class accommodations were quite lower than first class. They fit four to a small room, and sometimes the people in the same room did not even speak the same language. One bathtub was available for 700 people. You get the idea.
Right after the crash, Nikki seems more concerned about the bag than about Paulo. No wonder he was worried about losing her.
Paulo seeing the plane and then saying that it would fall is an eerie foreshadowing of what would happen to Boone.
When the monster kills someone, it is always a violent, bloody death. It is strange that the LOSTaways jump to the conclusion that the monster killed Nikki and Paulo when they show no signs of a violent death.
Arzt said that he had found 20 new species. Actually that recently happened in a remote tropical forest in Indonesia. About that many new species of butterflies, frogs and other animals were discovered.
Nikki starts to wake up around 8 hours after she was bitten. Nikki said the spider bite would wear off in about 8 hours so she gets buried alive along with Paulo.
WILD TANGENT
Billy D Williams, who plays the infamous cobra, also starred in The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi. I heard this unconfirmed story about 17 years ago. Originally his character Lando was going to be killed off in Return of the Jedi, but the cast went to George Lucas and told him that they were not going to do it if they killed Lando, so his life was spared. Evidence for this comes from one line in which Han Solo says I feel like I am never going to see her again. He is referring to his ship that Lando is taking on a mission to blow up the death star. But the ship comes out all right so why have that line in there?
That was a wicked twist of an ending there! Do you think that Nikki and Paulo are really going to stay dead? After all, Lock had already told Paulo that "Nothing stays buried on the island". I personally think that something will happen to make Sawyer and Hurley realize that they weren't really dead and they'll dig them up. And I think that it will be a really cruel irony that he threw the diamonds, which they cared about more than anything, loose into their grave with them. That way even if Nikki and Paulo survive, they'll never find them, even if they sifted through half the sand on the beach.
If you wait a day or two you should be able to watch the replay on abc.com fine. I did that last week but didn't watch till maybe last Friday, with no problems.
I completely forgot it was Wednesday. Yesterday (Thursday)I sat down at the computer to write up my Ping and then saw Lucky's synopsis and realized I was a day late. Doh!
I love a good cat fight. I wonder who really holds that special place in Kate's heart; Jack or Sawyer?
Left Behind should be a good episode. BTW does anybody know what happened to the Forums over at lost-tv.com? I went to look and the Hype Thread for tonight and the forums are not looking or working right.
