Their breakfast fare is sufficient, on occasion, but who the hell ever eats INSIDE one of those places? Why would you stand in line for a Bacon Egg & Cheese biscuit with coffee with yappy children and coughing, stinking parents lined up immediately behind you?
Drive-through or nothing. Eeesh. Makes me lose my appetite.

Mickey D's is the dump. The customers are trash and so is the "food."

The absolute worst McDonald's for speed and accuracy (lack thereof actually) is just down the street from my place. It's a high volume store, fed by a high school on one side and the traffic from the least expensive gas station in town on the other, so the volume isn't there because they are good. The place is dripping with ineptitude. The food seems to be made alright (for McDonald's), it is just too often not what you ordered, and it takes too long to get it. Times I have left there quite furious - but never ran anybody over.

My sympathies to you for enduring Eugene. Beautiful city, questionable politics. My brother and sister-in-law live there. Sadly, they are part of the hippie culture. Happily they wouldn't hamper your efforts to get a meal at Mickey D's. They would never go there.

Its not wise to come between a hungry woman and her McMuffin.

Eugene actually has more than it's share of rich and powerful old money Republicans. Guys who can pick up the phone and say "get me the President", and get the President. The leftists only think they run this town. But after living here nearly 30 years and having seen a lot, it is plain that regardless of who is in office, if the old money wants it, it is done (and when things actually do get built here, money goes into my pocket).
So it isn't all that bad. It's a pleasant enough place to live and earn a living, and there are always plenty of laughs downtown around city hall. When I retire I'll get out of here, but I think I can handle another 20 years of it if I have to, there are a lot worse places in which one can find themselves stuck.
McDonald's, it's not my choice to go there, I'd prefer just about anything else, but the wife chooses sometimes. And it is cheap.

Angry woman gets revenge at McDonald'sThis is the kind of double entendre(sic?) headline that fits AP's bias. The headline reads like the woman was evening a "score" with evil, capitalistic, mega-corporation McDonald's. The actual article reveals anything but. The author throws in the fact that another incident recently occured at another Micky D's in what comes across, in conjunction with the misleading headline, as an attempt to create an impression of McDonalds being some kind of incubator for angry consumers. The worst is when a new line opens up and one siezes the opportunity only to be burned when it takes longer for the register to be fully up and running (powered up, appropriate level of cash within to make change).
Now, I just stay in the initial line I started in.
Its a crap shoot!

I really like Eugene. My other Oregonian friends tell me that most of the state is actually conservative. I tell them that those conservatives need to get out there and vote in greater numbers! And I concur on McDonald's visits. Every few weeks I will crave a Big Mac or Quarter Pounder with Cheese. Not too often.

Queue Management is very efficient if you ever go to a military commissary. :)

That's right. Most of the state is Reagan country, with the exception of the little pocket in Eugene and the city of Portland. Even Salem, which very recently overtook Eugene as the state's second largest city, is majority Republican. And even in Eugene and Portland the leftist majorities aren't what I'd call huge. Lane County, where Eugene is, has a slight Dem voting majority and for the state overall the margin is razor thin.
So it's not all gloom and doom. The prevailing thought, at least in my circle, is that accelerating growth in the more rural areas is about to upset the balance and we will go red within a very few years. Even the state's most widely circulated "all leftism all the time" weekly has said as much. It would be great if, when that time comes, the state GOP will be run by and for actual Republicans so we can take advantage of that (because right now it isn't).

I'd love to see Oregon return to conservative principles. Good luck.
