I don't beleive the conspiracy theory; it would have to be someone in the Tour and this will destroy the race, already the Germans have withdrawn from live tv next year. Your point about the stupidity of taking doping when you know there will be a same-day test is very good and its the same one Phil Liggett made last nite, along with positing a theory that the remarkable stress on his body in those two days may have caused some incredible production of testosterone. I find it almost unbelievable that this is Landis. Nonetheless, I can posit this possiblitiy: with his hip and the horrific mountain performance, he knew that
Wednesday that he had lost the lead, probably for good, and this would probably be his last chance at winning a Tour. He had just lost millions, including a $2.5 million bonus from PHonak, his future is a lot dimmer, and in a fit of fatigue and despair, concludes "what have I got to lose" (the testosterone patch cannot always be determined). I hate to conceive this, but then again, I also admired Tyler Hamilton, also a Phonak rider.
Another thing that irks me is LeMond. He railed on Lance, who has never once failed a test and he is the most tested athlete in all of sports, and proclaimed that Landis "did it the right way" and now this.
