Hopefully a nice clean match with no bad ref calls or Henry flopping to the match grabbing his face when a player scruffs the glass and a blade blows up in the air striking him in the ankle and driving him to the turf.Henry?
You're delusional. You've just described the entire Italian squad.
First-class projection, though.

I give a rat's ass what I think and I'm not a troll. I just said I'm not quite into soccer and I was kinda making fun of the low scoring affairs and that particular announcer who says gooooooooooooooooooooooooooal. My attitude is, if millions of people love it, no problem, but I'm not one of them. The World Series and Stanley Cup might be minor events overseas, but not here in the US and Canada...in fact I would think they matter as much here as the World Cup does elsewhere. In all seriousness, why would you try to be the skunk at the garden party? This thread has been used during the World Cup to exchange views about the teams and the games. The vast majority of the posters like and enjoy the game and are knowledgeable about it. What is your motivation or objective in trying to put down the game or express your dislike of it? If you don't have any interest in the World Cup, why say anything?

I France wins tomorrow (I hope not) then England will be the only country among the World Cup winners that only won ONCE!

Have Hungary and Yugoslavia won twice?
To: romanesq
I was wondering which team will be wearing blue Italy or France. Are you sure Italy will be wearing blue tomorrow?

Hungary was in the final twice but never won. 1938 they lost to Italy and 1954 they lost to Germany (West Germany).
Yugoslavia was never in the final but Czechoslovakia was in 1962, they lost to Brazil.

Please, I'm a raccoon :) Alright, apologies for butting in!
May even try to follow some of the game tomorrow...though I'll be at a graduation party for my nephew about the same time the game's on. Who knows, might find something I like.

Exactly my reasons why I´m rooting for the French! Plus, Zinedine Zidane has fought so good, to win the final would be a nice good-bye for him.
But - no matter who wins this game today - we´re still "World Champion of hearts" :-)

Thanks for ping earlier, Michael.
I watched Germany-Portugal match again at 2x and 10X speed. It is nice to see the maneuvering that is done to set up the ball for the scoring opportunity. Thought Portugal looked strong at the end - but too late. The ref did a great job in the calling, too. And not a lot of diving.
Stallone, I agree with earlier comment you made regarding tone of the soccer thread. Heck, it's a game and a diversion. It sort of fizzled out for a while on Saturday.
dfwgator, agree with Germany providing nice venue for the Cup.
I am picking France today.

And it will be good if keyword trolls keep the trolling to humorous jabs. We already had one thread pulled by the mods a while back due to acrimony.
Football season will come soon enough.
And if some haven't kicked in yet to "pay the bills" and for the privilege of having chat threads on our favorite vices such as soccer, roundball, football, baseball, WFTD, as well as our founding principles, how about visiting

Hopefully, we'll have a good final with the true blues and no cheating and fouling from that Henry character.
Henry is not only a diving threat, he's the World Cup leader in fouling too.

Both finalists haven´t gone a road of glory - two ties for France, one for Italy, and both teams got a more or less undeserved penalty kick (may I remind you of the 90+5th minute ITA-AUS?). The entire World Cup hasn´t shown much of nice soccer. I think we already saw the best match of the tournament; tonight we´ll see two strong defenses with some advancing to the opponent´s goal - but I don´t hope for extra time or even worse: PK.

I think Italy might do something out of character for them: score early and often. They don't want to end up in another penalty kick shootout (the Italians are 0-3 in recent World Cups).

THe lack of talent had something to do with it also...
