Closing down Friday

Five minutes until the Nextel Cup garage closes and it's surprising that virtually no cars are covered -- well, the 21 Wood Brothers ride is, but you have to walk a ways to see another.
There was a mob waiting outside the southeast garage gate -- wonder why?
And it's surprising how many drivers -- in streets -- were still in the garage: Chad Blount, Travis Kvapil, and here comes Mike Wallace with his Bandolero-driving young son, Matt, heading to pit road to take in some Grand-Am Rolex sports car action.
The Rolex 24 is one thing, since it goes around the clock, but it's very strange to be in a Nextel Cup garage as the covers get pulled, with engines droning all around you.
Bill Davis' guys are in the engine bay of Dave Blaney's backup car, changing its engine. And what is Carl Edwards doing walking out of here, still in his uniform? The kid just can't get enough.
After totally circling through, watching Kevin Harvick and Richard Childress work a three-deep fence line, grinning all the while, was a sight to behold. What completed the incongruity was a pile of boy scouts behind them in the Fan Zone, cooking 'smores. A boy scout in a Mohawk -- sheesh!
Wonder if Mayfield's out on Lake Lloyd yet? Catch you all tomorrow.

I think they said Smoke had 5 or 6 practices today between IROC, Busch and Cup and he was pooped......so tonight should be interesting.
