One thing I like about Rowling: she's better in each book. I still don't think she's a great writer. But I had to tsk! and groan a lot through the first three, less the next two, and admire some things in the sixth.
I definitely admire her plotting. And my gosh, the climax of the book -- I heard it one way, totally; and then when we finished, we (mostly my smarter wife) started saying, "Wait a minute...."
Welcome to FR.
I don't think any of us wants your mom on our case!

She can't just leave the story with Dumbledore being a dead clueless rube. It's all a game and Voldemort's going to fall for it.
Rowling never describes in book six how a horcrux is made but if Harry can speak Parseltongue and has a psychic link to Voldemort what do you think caused it if he doesn't have a piece of Voldemort's soul in him?
You must've loved "Corpse Bride" then.
If not, then you're pretty darn close!
You're now on the ping list!
I really need to go back and read the books again. I picked them up and read them thinking they were children's books and by the time I got to the end of HBP - I realized there was more to them than that. You're right about the obvious answers and not taking things at face value in her books - you've probably nailed it regarding the prohecy. It's something I hadn't thought of before.
I don't see Hary and Voldemort killing each other, by the way. It would seem to play out like GoF. Been there, done that, bought the broomstick.
Likewise, I don't see Harry dying because it would have to be at Voldemort's hand, meaning that he wins the day. Lousy ending. Even if Neville or Ginny or anyone kills Voldemort right afterward.
And then there's the thought that it would be a team effort to bring down Voldemort -- because Voldey doesn't have any loved ones, doesn't know the meaning of love, and Love will save the day. Harry at the head of the army will bring him down.
Just as long as no one says: "There can be only one."
Jesus and Santa already used that line.

I thought I would, but I didn't. :-(
I thought it tried too hard, if that makes sense. It was like Tim Burton was trying to out-Tim Burton himself. I did like the remake of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, though. She played Charlie Bucket's mom. I know Johnny Depp sort of creeped some people out in that movie, but I thought it was cute.
LOL! The battle for the youngest freeper begins! ;-)
No. It's a disease. If you kill the guy that gives you chicken pox, you still have the chicken pox.
That is funny. I just was thinking about "Dumbledore's Army" and the emphasis he put on MAKING FRIENDS with the Durmstrangs and Beauxbatons. Perhaps more banding together is necessary.
I have always been struck by the helplessness and fear exhibited by the magical community whenever Voldy is mentioned. It is like he is the ultimate bully, with all the weaknesses that entails.
Neville is the perfect unlikely hero. But then maybe Draco will be the one to save the day. I truly have no idea. I hope the book lives up to its promise.
In "American Werewolf in Paris" Serafine definitely tells Andy that the only way to cure a werewolf is to kill the one that bit you.
I have her well begun. Her favorite insult is "You liberal!!" and she sleeps with "her" copy of "Help, Mom, there's a liberal under my bed!"
LOL!! That is soo funny!
Just don't start the battle for the most immature FReeper! :)
I vote for Laz.
