And Mickelson's quote is just priceless. Nothing else to say, is there?
He'll be fine, of course. But he won't be much fun to be around for a while!
Saves me the trouble. He didn't hit a fairway all day, so why not just use less club off the tee and play for par, knowing that by keeping it under control, the realistic worst he could have done was bogey and go to a playoff?
I'm an idiot just for pulling my driver out of my bag.
Tin Cup.
Yep!
A man's got to know his limitations.
I'm sure Phil will be made to apologize to all of the over-sensitive idiots he offended with his comment.
Remember when Tiger said he was a "spaz" or "spazed out" on the greens in the Masters? He caught all kinds of guff over that. The MSM claimed he was dissing retarded people or whatever PC term they go by now days. I can just see the International Brotherhood of Idiots' past-president Dan Rather holding his breath until he turns blue over this.
This would be why I never play for money. :)
It'd be worth forcing Mickelson into a fake apology just to see Dan Rather go on camera saying, "Hello, my name is Dan Rather, and I'm an idiot."
Yup. It's the three for me too.
I'm considering using an old gun lock to secure my driver into my bag. 8^)
Is there any doubt that Winged Foot (West course) is the toughest golf course in America?
Bobby Jones won the US Open there in 1929, with a score of +6.
Billy Casper won the US Open in 1959, with a score of +2.
Hale Irwin won the "Massacre at Winged Foot" US Open in 1974 with a score of +7.
And now Ogilvy wins the US Open in 2006 at +5.
Considering that I would probably shoot a 125 at an easy golf course, I shudder to think of how many shots I would take at Winged Foot. 300? Its possible.
I'm an idiot every time I tell myself, "you know, if I catch this cleanly with a 3-wood, I really could make this par-5 green in 2..."
Said idiocy usually preceeds an 8 or 9 on the scorecard.
In the interests of full disclosure, Fuzzy Zoeller won the US Open at Winged Foot in 1984 with a -4.
I'm not sure how he managed to do that. Did they cut the rough shorter that week or something??
Hey, golf balls are cheap! And once in a blue moon you'll rip off a drive that just goes on forever down the fairway. It makes all that investment in all those golf balls worth it, doesn't it?
Yeah, I'm an idiot.
If anyone can louse up a golf tournament, it's Mickelson and he did this one in true dysfunctional style. Didn't one of those shots on 18 go into a trash can? Or hit it? What can I say? The symbology says it all. The guy needs a shrink.
Meanwhile, Ogilvy deserves a lot of credit for keeping his cool while all about him icons and titans were crashing and burning. He clearly has what it takes to be a champion and I'm miffed that the idiot media led by that mental midget Costa is bashing him for winning by default. To blow my own horn a bit, I picked Ogilvy as the winner on Saturday. Something about those eyes. I like Ferrie too...he played an excellent game, all things considered, and I look forward to (hopefully) watching him develop.
Was disappointed that three biggies didn't even make the cut: Tiger, Goosen, and Garcia. Winged Foot is more like Broken Wings.
The course won the US Open in 2006. Oglivy just gets the trophy and the check. ;)
What was Tiger thinking making Winged Foot the first course he's competitively played on for the last few months?
He needed a warm-up tournament before tackling Winged Foot. Now he's only got two rounds under his belt.
That was on 16 or 17 (the latter, I think). Free drop out of the trash bag -- clearly a "temporary movable obstruction" if there ever was one.
I'd say. 2 bad swings, when he should have played conservative, cost him over $700,000. ...But that's golf for ya'.
