I have thought about it for a while, and I think the draw for the play-offs should me made after the group games.

Then you would avoid all that stuff. Like England possibly playing to loose against Sweden to avoid Germany,

Do the draw afer the group stages. Make an evening out of it with some great artists etc. etc.

Cheers.

Brutal attack from the behind is nothing else but red card.

Yes. How does that in any way apply to what Mastroeni did?

Sometimes you really don’t act but need more than fifteen second to recover

You have to admit its mostly show. Ive been tackled tons of times and never rolled around like that. you get hit, you get up. Man up. The only time I stayed down a while was when my ACL snapped in half. Even after that I still walked off the field by myself.

the flopping makes it hard for Americans to get onboard with.

No one has to roll around 4-5 revolutions which often happens.

Annoys me to no end.

BTW. It is not only an "American thing", most people hate play acting and diving.

Look out for Australia tomorrow.

And, trust me.

I would rather have Poles, than Somalians :-)

That's good to hear. Any chance of FIFA enforcing flopping and diving?

In all fairness, however, I have seen players yellow-carded in the EPL for horrible flops.

I think I read somewhere that the the refs this year have been especially instructed to give yellow cards for playacting.

Havent' seen to much of that in action though.

I never do. but the foul birds who call them all the time are the most annoying people on the court. same is true w/ the fakers in soccer

Arena need to petition to have the US-Ghana game postponed, say, at least by 30 minutes. As long as the US is ahead in the Ghana game, the Italians and Czechs can simply play for a tie. If both games are played at exactly the same time, as is now scheduled, then as soon as the US gets ahead, the Czechs and Italians just settle in for the tie, until Ghana ties it back up. That's why the Italy-Czech game must be played without knowing the results of the US-Ghana game. And that's why the US-Ghana game should be delayed.

The games have to be played at the same time. Its up to the US to get the best result they can. If word filters through that the US are winning and the Italians and Czechs decide to play out time, that's tough. The rules are set before the tournament.

I would agree with you ONLY IF all the other tackles like in the World Cup had been given Reds but many haven't even gotten yellows. That was hardly a purposeful attack like a elbow swing to the face and it wasn't like the player was on a fast break to score a goal. He was just 1/2 second behind. It should have been a yellow, not a red. Period.

It seems most do hate it, which is why I dont see why they dont stop it. It has really gotten out of control. We had a german exchange student play for us in HS and he said they teach you how to flop in the leagues over there. FIFA needs to reel it in.

That is exactly my point: let the players settle it, not the officials. On the street half-courts, whiners won't get "the rock" if they whine, and, in the pros, baseball (less now than in the past) and hockey players would be given wide latitude to enforce a rather Gentlemanly form of Sporting Justice.

Now everything is legislated, and manhood is disappearing.

Will you be following the Tour de France this year?

Starts 7/7 at Trafalguar Square in honour of the 7/7 victims.

It starts on July 7th? I understood Le Tour starts July 1 in Strasbourg...

I will be following the TDF the best I can this year, but I'm not sure yet if I can do my usual TDF ping list. I will be 'out of town' and offline the last several days of Le Tour, so I unfortunately will be unable to follow the end of the race.

yep, if you fake it to get a call, know that the next one you get is actually going to hurt you. Then you wont have so much fish out of water dancing going on

I have to admit that as a junior player (15 years old), our coach teached us how to dive effectively.

Then again, he also brough a carton of beer to every soccer game we played. It was hardly at an elite level :-)

The thing is, at the speed the game is happening at these days, it is really hard to determine.

That's why I have changed my opinion on video refereeing.

I want it on goal situations, penalities, and on red cards)

...the Italians and Czechs can simply play for a tie....

I really don't think that should be a problem. FIFA made it pretty clear that they weren't going to tolerate that sort of thing.

Interesting that the same thing happened four years ago. South Korea and Portugal went into the final game against each other both needing a draw to go through on goal difference....Poland scored against the USA early on in their match as I recall. South Korea kept playing and scored just before halftime and eventually won the game.

Its just a terrible part of the sport. It is so dramaticized writhing in pain and whatnot. People see it as a weak sport with cowardly players, me and a few of my teammates tried to change the image... but sadly our run to the finals in florida didnt teach the whole nation. P.S. We got screwed by a ref... so I have special disdain for poor officiating.
