How about Signs...don't see that one there either.
I think a movie must reach to the emotions to be "inspirational". I don't get watey or warm when I think of TKAM. I saw it when I was a kid, it mostly made me fidget. I can however see some people thinking it inspirational..explain, however, "Thelma and Louise".
AFI also rated A Finch the top movie hero, hence the "queer" remark.
Princess Bride is a better movie adapted from a book, although it carries no important meaning.
Best western ever made and best theme song, too.
One of best acting performances I ever saw too.
We watched that tonight...it is an inspiring movie. Perhaps the AFI has something against Mel Gibson?
...and neither did Airplane!
Where the heck is Green Mile?
I can't take this list seriously as long as "Full Metal Jacket" isn't on it.
You bet it was. The scene where they sing La Marseillaise (at a time when France was under the boot of the Germans) is one of the most stirring scenes in any movie ever made.
I believe Hollywood would be incapable of expressing an emotion like that today.
