Excellent post. I would doubt there are even 2000. In my decades of life in the South, I have met ... drum roll please ... ONE (1) person that claimed membership. Conversly, a young black man I worked with said the reason he migrated from yankeedom to the South was to escape the Klan.

Then what would you call the Davis regime and the southern leadership? With their constitution that not only protected slavery but slave imports? With leaders like Davis and Lee and Jackson who believe slavery was the best possible situation for blacks in the confederacy, who would do nothing to interfere with that relationship, and who wanted blacks right where they were, as property, and not as free men and women in the south? By any standard, certainly the standards that you hold Lincoln to, those men were vile, despicable racist monsters. Deserving of the same degree of disgust you direct towards Lincon. Wouldn't you agree?

No. Lincoln fought hard for the 2nd proposed 13th (Corwin) which would have made slavery PERMANENT. Even without the the seceded states, the Union STILL could not drum up support to end slavery.
If he fought for it why wasn't it adopted by the states. The other 13th Amendment, on the other hand, was pushed for by Lincoln, added to the Republican platform in 1864 at his insistence, passed out of Congress with Lincolns strong support, and was well on the way to ratification when Lincoln was murdered.
Only when it was politically expedient he issued his illegal Proclamation 1) to prevent European nations siding with the Confederacy, 2) to foster a rebellion by blacks in the South against the defenseless old men, women and children remaining there, 3) to entice blacks into fighting for the Union (at reduced wages, no commissions, only under white leadership), and 4) to fool idiots and the gullible into believing that he considered blacks equal.
Not very fond of the idea of freeing slaves, were you. Your ranting aside, the proclamation was not illegal, did not call for rebellion among the blacks in the south, and may have helped enlist blacks into the Union army to fight for their oppressed brothers and sisters held in bondage in the south. And the only idiots around here are ones who would believe your reasons for the proclamation.
Giving credit where credit is due, the blacks of the South refused to rise up and slaughter the old men, women and children. Instead, they remained to help defend their homes from the yankee horde that invaded. Kudos to them.
Hundreds of thousands didn't stick around long when the Union forces appeared in the area, did they. And as for those you said fought for the south, that same confederacy couldn't see its way clear to offering them freedom for their service. Send to war, and then return them to the fields, that was the Davis regime's motto.

Poor choice of words. By issuing the Emancipation Proclamation, Lincoln prevented black men and women who were fleeing the inhumane bondage that they labored under in the south from being returned to their owners which the Fugitive Slave laws would had required were they still slaves. OK?

2. If I were in your place, and I really believed I was right, and I knew where the evidence was, I would give the person who asked for a cite a direction to go in. "Well, I found it in a book by so and so" or "At the archives in such and such there's a record that says..." But you haven't done that, you just whine about how we don't have any right to expect you to prove anything.

1. As I have said, that is a lie. I cited Sherman's written orders in one of my first posts to you.
2. As I have said, you are just being hypocritical. You whine about "homework" then condemn me for not putting my business on hold to go and dig. Furthermore, I don't care if some other pantwaisted whiners call it "assigning homework," in the real world if you bring charges you must bring evidence.

Morris Dees is an interesting character, I will say that. I'd say his influence in the state has been 50/50. Dees is responsible for the demise of the United Klans of America, and of itself, that deserves a major commendation.
