Thanks.

Yes, it could explain the police call about checking on the kids, but not why CGM wanted a man she didn't know well to pick up her kids.

Unless she actually did know him well...., which is what I am leaning toward.

Did you guys catch the Duke sold the homes they owned on Buchanan and nearby streets but NOT the house at 610 Buchanan?

Wasn't one of the demands at one of the protests that the house be turned into a rape crisis center?

Maybe there's an internal conflict at Duke about the Rape Crisis Center? The initial reaction is - Duke wouldn't do that, but Duke's screwed these LAX players every chance they've had so far.

On Hannity, the biggest thing was that Megyn Kendall said that Nifong's office has been leaking too, when it's to their advantage.

It was different, they didn't have anyone that defended the AV except for Colmes. Both lawyers as guests were critical of Nifong.

They did mention that the Duke Defense Lawyers have told Megyn that they are presenting a unified case. The lawyers are all cooperating, even of the players not indicted. The lawyers are so certain of the innocense that they are making a very unusual move (hitching their wagons all together).
Sean made the point that this proves beyond a doubt that no player is turning.

Did anyone see Abrams? Did he have anything on Duke?

Thanks for the link, but now I am even more confused.

Who picked the kids up from school that day and why? Was it normal for her to do that?

If she picked them up from school, where did she take them?

If she took them to her parent's where the media says she lives, there would be no need to wonder about them later.

Why would she ask the guy who drove that night to check on her kids if she knew they were with the grandparents...unless she knew there was a problem?

"I do have a question about non-indicted players suing for damages, however. I would think that the only ones who would possibly have a provable case are those whose job offers were rescinded due to this mess."

Didn't the alleged Atlanta Olympics bomber have a case because his name was bandied about in the newspapers? (And he won, or the newspaper settled for a large sum.)

I think if the players had their names and photos on a Crimestoppers poster, and that Nifong called them all hooligans, might be enough right there for starters.

Not to mention they had their season cancelled, possibly missed finals (lost a semester's work/cost?), have trouble continuing with their education elsewhere (can't transfer),
had "pain and suffering" (ridiculed in class, in campus demonstrations), were lumped together by Duke as irresponsible and portrayed as reckless jocks (impact on their future yet to be determined), and so on.

I think any tort lawyer would salivate at this.

They were ALL treated like they were guilty or covering up for a vicous, heinous crime.

Kimberly Gilfoyle, a couple weeks into the story called them rapists and said that they KNOW what happened in there and, if they were her sons they wouldn't be allowed back into her house until they went down to the DA and told all.

Nancy Grace. Where to start? She laughed and rolled her eyes night after night - and said, yeah, yeah, I can't wait for the DNA to come in, what is there story going to be then.

Wendy Murphy called them rapists.

Susan Filan, Jim Hammer, Alan Colmes, Lis Wiehl, Geraldo, O'Reilly, Ted Williams - all spoke assumed a crime had taken place and a coverup.

If you remember back, there was a time when many in the media where in favor of forcing the lacrosse players to speak or not to be allowed back into the University. This not only assumes that a crime took place, but the Right to remain silent is fundamental and cannot be waived in politically correct prosecutions.

This is from a piece in the Charlotte Observer (03/29):

"The university should make it plain to team members who were at the party that they MUST come forward with what they know -- or face serious consequences for their REPREHENSIBLE
silence."

That's one thought. I'm not sure how crimestoppers is set up. Each city may have a separate entity.

A civil suit in another jurisdiction seems the only way to really tie down sworn testimony of Crystal, her family, and others. No matter what they say, once they testify, you've got them tied to a story.

I would do whatever I had to do to force Crystal to testify in a deposition in a civil case where she is a defendant. She has no right to withhold her evidence until she testifies in the criminal case.

Thanks for the rundown on Hannity's show.

Yes, I saw most of Abrams. Nothing on Duke today.

According to our resident Mike Nifong poster, he learned from Hannity's show tonight that all the defense attonreys, not just those representing the three indictees, are banding together into a unified front and nailing down everybody's story/recollection of that night.

Dare we hope this is a sign that they are considering suits against Mangum, etc.?

I sure hope so.

Unless these guys go on the offensive somewhere else, they're stuck in the cess pool of Durham's seedy politics.

I am convinced someone made the phone disappear, someone connected to the police or DA.

Duke lacrosse player charged with a DWI

By BETH VELLIQUETTE : The Herald-Sun

CHAPEL HILL -- Another Duke men's lacrosse player is facing legal trouble allegedly involving alcohol.

Matthew Peter Wilson, 21, of 26 Oak Drive in Durham, was charged with driving while impaired and possession of marijuana last week in Chapel Hill.

Wilson, a midfielder on the 2006 Duke lacrosse team that saw its season cut short by allegations of a gang rape, was stopped May 24 on East Franklin Street near the intersection of Boundary Street after he allegedly ran a red light about 2:50 a.m., according to police documents.

Wilson twice registered a blood alcohol level of 0.21 on a breath test, nearly three times North Carolina's legal threshold for impairment.

Chapel Hill Officer Jason Belcher wrote on the documents accompanying the citation that he suspected Wilson had been drinking because he smelled a strong odor of alcohol and because Wilson performed poorly on a field sobriety test, according to documents.

After arresting Wilson, police searched the 2002 Lincoln that he was driving and discovered "less than one half ounce" of marijuana and a glass pipe, according to Jane Cousins of the Chapel Hill Police Department.

In all, police charged Wilson with driving while impaired, possession of marijuana, running a red light and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a written promise to appear in court on Aug. 1.

But if they can get the phone number, they can at least get the records from the service provider. There's a place on the internet where you can check to see who the service provider is for a specific number.

The defense attorneys could subpoena Mangum's kids' school registrations and maybe get her cell phone number(s) from them.

Further, it should be part of the discovery and on the police report for victim contact information. Nifong is supposed to turn that over to the defense, as we know.

3 former Duke lacrosse players drafted by pro teams

EXCERPTS

DURHAM -- Two days after he had hoped to play for a national championship, former Duke lacrosse player Matt Zash finally got an opportunity to play the game he loves on a competitive level.

Zash and two former teammates, Kyle Dowd and Dan Flannery, took part in workouts hours before the Major League Lacrosse college draft. All three were selected in Wednesday night's draft, and Zash could make his professional debut as early as Saturday when his Philadelphia Barrage faces the New Jersey Pride.

(snip)

Meanwhile, Zash recognizes that he didn't lose nearly as much as some of his teammates.

David Evans, who graduated in May, and sophomores Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann still await their court date on charges of first-degree rape, sexual offense and kidnapping.

"They're strong individuals, and I'm confident they'll land on their feet," Zash said.

He declined to say whether he attended the March 13 party.

"I know this will blow over and they'll be found innocent," he said. "We're communicating frequently, and they're doing the best they can with it. They have unbelievable support because we all know it could have been any one of us who got picked in this lottery."

Zash, who ranked second on the team with 14 goals during Duke's 6-2 start, said he thought that the Duke program on the whole would bounce back.

"I'm very confident that they'll play [next season]," he said. "I hope and pray that they'll consider reinstating Coach Pressler, but I don't know how likely that is."

Unless crazy Crystal was already well known in DPD circles (highly likely IMO) and there had been prior incidents with the kids being neglected and the cops were the ones worried about them.

I am very happy to see that they are hanging in there and have some progress going on for some of them personally.
