They had Elton John week, that should have evened things out right there.
;o)
PS - I called Taylor Hicks the first time I heard his voice and I wasn't even in the room. Wife laughed at me and said he had gray hair.
I said so what, you can't hear his hair on the radio or ipod.
Katharine doesn't belong on Broadway. My wife is a trained professional singer with perfect pitch who has done many musical stage roles, and when you do that, you have to sing with great consistency. Katharine's pitch control is wildly variable: on the finale, she sounded okay on her first song, excellent on her second, and like two cats fighting in a barrel on her third. That sort of thing can be "corrected" in the pop world, but if you do it in the musical theater above community theater level, you'll be gone before dress rehearsal.
I agree. Taylor does not equal AI winner in my mind, at all. Between the two, Kat was by far the better singer. I do think the fix was in as far as the show wanting a male winner this year. The judges were absolutely cruel when it came to the women. I think they probably would have rather had Elliot or Chris (someone with at least some traditional vocal talent) than Taylor, but Taylor did have that bizarre Soul Patrol thing going for him.
We never watch AI, but I talked hubby into watching Tues. night and then we caught part of last night's show. The Burt Bacarach segment was our favorite.
Granted, we only watched those two nights of the season, but concluded that Kat should have won. Wow, were we surprised that not only did Taylor win, but that he received such fanatic enthusiasm from his fans! We liked Taylor alright, but Kat is a songbird and we thought she should have won. We felt like the "fix was in".
Two weeks in a row the judges said they didn't either like Kat's song choice or song. in the first instance the guest picked the song and the other was the song Kat is singing on the album.
How about a Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald and Madonna week?
I'm waiting for the William Hung week...
LOL! Hey do you have any idea where I could
download that skit? I've never seen it and hear
it's absolutely hilarious!
Here is a Yahoo! video search with some places to download the skit...

Thanks very much!!
Very good post!
Taylor is the best idol they have ever had. He is gracious and appreciative. He has a voice that is very soulful, writes great music on his own, plays a mean harmonica and guitar.
You should check out graycharles.com. They have a listing of his original music that you can download.
And make sure to listen to his versions of "Georgia" and "On Broadway".
And to all of you folks crying FIX, get a life. I am so sure that he is the one they would have fixed the show for. LOL
They would much rather have Chris or Kat as the idol, because they fit the idol mold. That is so funny, thinking they would fix it for Taylor!!!!
Get over it. People just love the man. And his style.
SOUL PATROL!!!!!!!
