What in the world are you talking about?

What problems in the work environment?

What lost revenue?

it's no wonder Symantec has been quietly backing out of the Mac development front.

And I wish they'd back out of the PC development front. They were indispensible in the DOS/3.1 days, and useful in the '95 days, but now their products do more harm than good. Besides, do you trust a vendor that chose not to detect Sony's DRM rootkit because Sony asked? What else are they conveniently not detecting?

I'm curious what sort of network problems you might have... At my work (a public high school), we have a 100% PC environment (mixed Windows 98 & XP with Novell servers) and we have some relatively common networking issues. Yet I can take my iBook or my PowerMac up and plug in the ethernet cable and I am online... I freaked out one of the tech people here a while back when I printed a document in her office.....from across the campus.

IN fact - a kind of funny story - while trying to install a Dell lazer printer, the XP machine in my room would not hit the printer to complete the setup (had to change the IP address and subnet). I suggested opening my iBook.... and was able to hit the printer (who needs to install those stinkin' drivers???) and complete the setup. After that, the other PCs on the network could then hit the printer.

I HIGHLY suspect user/IT error if there was any difficulty in networking Macintosh computers. If there is one thing that is hard to argue with regarding Apple - they made networking a priority- and networking Macs is as easy as it gets.

Please, you are not defending AppleTalk are you. That is universally accpeted as Mac garbage.

And funny you should mention printer drivers. I lost all my printers again today. Quark crashed - suspect it was because a conflicting PC font was in the PDF file that came to us. Took out quark and my printers.

Some day the world will look back on Macs with the same laugh when we think of Beta tapes. Remember when you went to the video store and they had both. For me, though, having to work on a Mac is a cruel joke. I lost an hour of work tonight.

AppleTalk....I haven't used AppleTalk in over a decade....and there is a reason - no need. But keep in mind, at one time - AppleTalk was the only game in town, and even then I don't remember (what VERY limited exposure I had to it back then)it being all that bad.... still worked better than the current situation with Windows/Novell where I work (although admittedly we didn't do anywhere near as much back then with networking).

I have been hearing the comparison of Apple/PC and Beta/VHS for over 20 years. I don't remember BetaMax having a 20 year lifespan (except possibly in the pro-video/broadcast market - was used far after the consumer market was closed).

I have never had a crash from a "conflictin PC font" from a PDF file. Again - and I don't mean to offend you, but I still think the problems you are having are related to something other than computer platform. A quick search of some tech sites reveals quite a few known problems with Quark - including crashing issues. AS I said - I would suspect the software developer.

One other possibility is a corrupt font in your User Folder. I know that MS products have a problem with corrupt fonts, so I would imagine Quark's products could also suffer from similar problems.
