I was attacked by a Afghan hound when I was 11,I still have the scars. when are they going to be banned?
As I understand it, the bill was changed a bit, because as written originally, it would have forced judges to declare a dog dangerous if it killed a "companion animal".
Think of this scenario. Billie Sue's pet poodle finds the kid next door's pet rabbit (who got out of its cage some way). Poodle plays with Bugs Bunny, who has a heart attack and dies.
Presto, Billie Sue now has to keep $300,000 worth of dangerous dog liability insurance on Phluffy, keep her in a 6 foot, covered, locked, kennel/prison, etc, etc, etc.
The state hunting dog lobby (yes, hunters get powerful huffy when you threaten their guns or their bird dawgs) had a fit, and went into hyper-drive to get this bill modified. It was passed, and goes into effect, I believe, in July.
It comes down hard on the perp who insists on keeping a dog of ANY breed or mix thereof, who threatens society. Suddenly, the thugs won't think it's so cool to tease their "pet" until it goes into a frenzy to get a child.
If they do, they'll be meeting their new roommate, Bubba.
A few years ago, we had a couple of dogs. A beautiful Dobie and a little pekinese mix. The neighbor had a pit. Our little dog thought he was a big lion and apparently teed off the pit who bit him through the belly killing him (not instantly though). Our Twister (Baron HellMutt von Twister) met him in the street and proceeded to take revenge for his little friend. Pit was killed and Twister was messed up for a while. Neighbor was not happy but didn't say much. Twister also took on a rattler. Swelled up his head and made him sick but he got over it.
