re: How and why am I surprised that Charles Krauthammer supports amnesty.)))

These Rockefellers like to be waited on. They've exploited servants, and need to justify that exploitation by affecting a sentimentality. Noblesse Oblige--only they get to be the noblessed and we get to be obliged.

Immigration is the issue that peels the populist conservatives from the neocons, and the neocons better watch out, or their hegemony ain't gonna be worth the Starbucks napkin it's written on.

What I can't quite understand is the reverence afforded Krauthammer. "Well, he's so smart." What's he done besides offer opinions? I had my own epiphany about him when he went postal over "The Passion of the Christ" and fulminated about the coming horde of evangelicals with pitchforks. It's the blood libel come alive again? Say, what?

He got his position from friendship and family connections with the Kristols, Podhortetz--the old diaper-baby families that discovered conservatism and now think they have a franchise. He's a bored Canadian shrink come south to Bring Us Wisdom.

No thanks. I'd rather have Ann, or Brian York--I'm tired of our tired old neo pundits. I want some neo-neo.

Here in touristland, we quickly learn as babes in arms, the difference between a Canadian and Canoe.

A Canoe is liable to tip over.
A Canadian won't tip at all.

BTW, there is a subspecies of Canadian, all from the same Montreal neighborhood, that has dominated news presentation and interpretation here for three decades: Peter Jennings, Morley Safer, The Wallace Clan, and scads of others, backed up by an unseen squadron of backroom boys, (writers, producers, reporters) also all from Canada, mostly from that same neighborhood, who decide what the news is, what the story is going to be, write it up, and pass it on. How this happened? Beats me, Mamzelle.

Please don't think I am too much of a nutcase, ("Guilty, your honor, with an explanation.") but this was also a hotbed of commie influence in the 30's and 40's.

If these guys were all from Sicily, you would call it the "Mafia." One big difference: The Mafia controls hauling garbage AWAY from your house, these guys dump it IN your home every night.

Yo, Both are wiseguys.

Cut their benefits and penalize employers who hire them and they'll leave on their own without government spending. Taxpayers would gain billions from the savings.

The more pressure we keep on Mexico, immigration-wise, the more reformers inside of Mexico can be emboldened and empowered to scale back monopolists' abuses down there which keep our own country flooded with economic refugees. Here's an interesting new thread on new legal progress that finally emerged in Mexico I think as a result of immigration reform's failure:

We can make a difference for our sake, and their's as well. Isn't it the neighborly thing to do?

He got it 1/2 right- do need a major fence/wall/major barrier before we do anything else; don't want amnesty though- not sure why so many do; if they really understood the issues most would not want it.
