Students have begun collecting signatures on petitions and tried unsuccessfully to file a complaint with the American Bar Association. Huh... Filing a compliant with an association about lawyers?

For me, the act of "writing it down" firmly implanted the material. When it came test time, just going back over the notebook rather then cramming from the textbook worked like a charm and saved a lot of time. I stumbled onto that system in HS. Usually never stressed over tests, I ran into a situation where I thought, "For 2 cents I'd make a 'pony' (i.e., a crib sheet) for this test." And then I thought, ". . . but by the time I made the pony I would know the material anyway. So why bother writing small? I won't make a 'pony,' I'll make a 'horse' and be able to take the test." So that's when I adopted the same idea that you just articulated. Worked well.
