I have spent the last hour peaking back and forth from FR to searching Amazon.com for books on AACR2 and MARC guides for library cataloging research...nothing you could have been doing would have been so weird....

I am going crazy, and threatening to catalog all of my books so that I can search appropriately when I can't remember that tidbit of information that I need...librarian tech sickness....

Well, there are times that I am not
physically writing, but I use those times to look for more ideas to write about.
Sometimes it even helps if I think about some of the things I want to accomplish, and then go to sleep. That way my subconscious does the work for me.

The first computerized encyclopedia had an index that occupied more memory than the encyclopedia.

So you learned that trick to? I always imagined it was pouring a stream of info into my head, then going off to let it ferment...the wine of fine ideas...

Nice analogy. The whole purpose of dreaming is making connections between esoteric bits of data.
Many artistic and scientific breakthroughs have been attributed to dreams.
I can't say for sure whether any of my creations had their roots in dreams, but I use dreams as allegories a lot.

That I can believe. At work we use the CAB Thesaurus for our keywords. It's about as thick as my Webster's unabridged, and it's still deficient in many areas (It's geared to the needs of the USDA). I haven't hefted the LOC thesaurus, but I suspect it's heftier.

I eschew thesauri.
And now I will go and be productive in a different orientation.

Catalogers use lists of keywords called Thesauri. The CAB is geared to the life sciences. It gets very frustrating at times, because it is a limiting thing, that lacks important key areas, since it is biased for things like agriculture, biology, and such.
