I just don't understand why THEY don't make it against the law for wolves to attack and eat moose.
Early pioneers knew what they were doing by destroying every wolf they came across. They had enough of being intimidated by wolves (and those that used this to their advantage) in the old country.
That would be brutal.
I'd send the Earth Firsters in on a field trip. Two problems solved....
It'll all come out on wash day.
Peterson should go live with the wolves.
It worked out well for that California nut who went to Alaska to live with the bears.
Lunch for the bears.
There is no sense in shipping food over to the wolves. This is a normal occurrence between predator - prey populations in the wild. There will be a natural culling within the wolf population to the point where the moose to wolf ratio will be balanced again.
Those Agency persons want to make us all extinct.
Closing our historic roads that we have used for decades and closing our boat docks so that we are driven off.
In New Mexico, they are finally allowing a hunting season on mountain lions that were killing (into extinction) the Mt. Bighorn Sheep.
"I don't like the idea of shooting them, but humans have obviously stuck their noses in, and this is what
happens."
Not necessarily so! This happens in nature all the time. The wolves will die off as their population can't be supported by the natural food supply. As long as this isn't affecting human communities or ranchers beyond their ability to protect themselves and their livestock, it's best to let it resolve itself as this also will affect natural flora in it's own cycle. The real impetus for this entire news report is probably in funding some epa or other liberal agency agenda.
"Just kill every freaking wolf on Isle Royal and make a hat out of them!
Can I have matching mittens and mukluks please?
But we have a better solution.
The Board of Game may expand predator control, giving snowmachiners the chance to pursue and shoot wolves just a quick drive from Wasilla or Big Lake.
Fresh off an Alaska Supreme Court victory in the continuing fight over wolf control, the board will look at several proposals to expand aerial wolf kills, liberalize the sale of bear hides and allow snowmachiners to hunt wolves in new areas.
Back in the 80's, I stayed at one of the few cabins still owned by an American citizen on the island. (All the original owners of property had use as long as they lived. When they died, their heirs were denied use and the property reverted to fascist federal government.)
Isle Royale had a vibrant fishing community and tourist trade before the feds took over, going back to the early 1900s. The people respected the land and resources, but now the eco-fascist are ruining it by trying to bar everyone except hippy hikers. The situation has improved somewhat since the lawsuit, but I fully expect that some years down the road another bunch of eco-fascists will try to ban boaters and anglers.
I've fantasized over getting up an expeditionary force - maybe a dozen Marine and airborne veterans - and throwing the federal bums off. With that terrain, you could hold off and defeat a platoon of federal goosestepping goons.
I hope that you are correct.
Closing our public lands and our historic public roads is real wrong.
This is a denial of equal access to most Americans. Maybe a few can hike 30 miles per day.
The older Americans and disabled need roads and/or power boats to visit our public lands and waters.
Capture the excess wolf population in Michigan. Place temporary, construction fencing around the state capitol building in Sacramento. Release the wolves into their temporary pen when California's legislature is in session.
Nail the bachelor's children with a complaint under the Americans With Disabilities Act. Then, once the fact that no acommodations for the disabled have been made, the agency is in deep sh*t.
Fun, and profitable, too.
"Ask not what your government can do for you, ask how you can sue your government".
I have thought that the Americans With Disabilities Act should be a good tool for us to use.
The denial of equal access should be an effective legal argument.
Are the aerial wolf shootings restarted ?
I read that the ALF people stopped it.
"Doing nothing will mean the virtual elimination of the moose population."
Moose have dealt with wolves for a long time.
