Interestingly, the Eskimos have no source of fresh fruit, but they still get plenty of vitamin C. They drink a lot of seal oil. It is extremely high in pretty much everything a growing boy (or girl) needs. Good stuff.

I was in an Anthropology class many years ago, and there was a Japanese kid in class. He was about 6'2" tall. The instructor assumed that the kid was not full-blooded Japanese. Wrong. His parents were born in Japan and moved to the US before he was born. His father was about 5' tall, and his mother was a bit less. That was one embarrassed Anthropology Professor.

Nobody in his family (still in Japan) was as big as he was, not by a long shot. He could not speak Japanese; they did not teach it to him. He was not raised on traditional Japanese food, as his parents wanted him to "be American". They raised him on meat and potatoes for dinner, with lots of cow's milk and cereal for breakfast. He grew up big. Who'd'a thunk it?

Oh come on, every museum would kill for the right to display them. Those gians stories are all bs.

There are hundreds of them on the web, all claiming that "somewhere in the state of something a dozen skeletons XXX feet high where found, and the evil scientists covered it up".

Do i have to believe that every archeologist is in on the conspiracy? They have to be or one team might find skeletons and not turn them in to the 'proper conspirators'. And how come nowadays no giants can be found? We're run out of giants?

I can claim to have Atlantis in my backyard too, it takes evidence before you have to take anything serious that someone says on the web. Unless you believe in fairies too, cause you can find those accounts on the web aswell.

"(this research is one of the things that has apparently rather oddly disappeared from the web in recent years")

A lot of historically contrarian things conveniently "disappear".

Take the "Cherchen mummies", for one example.
After the Discover Channel ran the show, a plethora of sites popped up.
As years have passed, the sites have dwindled to vague and repetitive synopses.
Then there are these guys;

http://www.stevequayle.com/Giants/N.Am/Death.Valley.html

There are more things hidden than are ever revealed, simply because they contradict the politcally correct/"accepted" view of this country.

http://www.mcremo.com/museum.htm

http://www.genesispark.org/genpark/foot/foot.htm

Just to add a layer of annoyance to the discussion, I happen to have a huge granitic "cupstone" sitting on the other side of the stream that runs parallel to my house.

They are very common in areas where Celts once lived and are always situtated over "dragon lines" which may be lines of electromagnetic force or underground springs. [where I live is above an intricate yet ephemeral and fleeting network of underground springs]

The stone of which I spoke sits directly over an especially powerful underground stream that runs east-west parallel to the south side of my house and intersects another even more powerful stream running north to south.

The neighbor directly south of me on a dead straight line from the stone drilled according to what the local 'water-witch' told him and hit an Artesian well. [and was that ever 3 days of geyser-like excitement]....;D

Coincidence?

"Native Americans" didn't seem to have much interest in creating ley-line cupstones...so who did?

Well, the kinfolk are long dead, of course.
Consider the times.
Back then, discoveries like that ran counter to religious beliefs.
It's entirely possible that the church got rid of them or the contemporary traveling freak shows bought them and lost them.

I have no idea.

I only know that the locals are nothing if not pragmatic and sceptical to a fault.

My no-nonsense grandfather and one of our neighbors both claimed to have sighted something akin to a "Bigfoot" with the neighbor actually having her house trailer nearly shaken apart by the thing.
There were visible marks on the trailer afterwards and I stayed away from that area for a very long time when horse back riding.

I once had the horse spook at a large *something* that appeared darker than the surrounding darkness as we passed a backroad trash dumping area one night.

I have no idea what it was and was not over-inclined to go back and investigate.

I simply took the horse's word for it that we should get the hell away from there immediately and speedily.

[thank God horses have great night vision and can run full tilt in pitch darkness]

I went back there during the day and there was no tree or other object that would've accounted for whatever I/he saw the night before.

[I'm not a person who especially "believes" in Bigfoot, anyway]

*shrug*

Old mountains are funny places to live, sometimes.

Yeah, you can't find much info about the giants. I have often wondered why.

mhm, i suppose those giants may have been australopithecus?
They're skeletons look like those of a large human.

I do know that "Hogzilla", the super sized pig, was supposedly longer then 3 meters long but after they dug it up they concluded it could not have been larger then 2.25- 2.50 meters long. So people do tend to exagerate or make mistakes. I guess it would be wrong to presume any report of giant skeletons is fake, but i do believe not all that shines is gold. Or, in this case, all that is bony and big a giant.

K-man's nose is a bit broader, and his brow more pronounced. Similar features can be found in a lot of folks originating in cold climes.

The cranial reconstruction on the Time cover is pretty bad.

The Time cover picture also looks too feminine for Kennewick Man. Maybe (according to Time) he was a PC metrosexual?

If they hadn't killed it, it would be in a zoo right now.

The guy who shot it made it sound like he was in life danger, unlikely with a pig that wouldn't even be able to run fast. Plus he stated the pig stood still.

Even dead Smithsonian would pay $$$ for it.
Shooting and burying it was not the brightest move you can do when enountering a supersized animal. Oh well.

"We have tales of Celtic settlements that preceded Columbus, but they were presumably on the other side of the continent and it's hard to see how they would have gotten to Nevada."

Barry Fell found ample "Celtic" artifacts in Ohio and points further west.
Taking another quantum leap of historic/mythic supposition, what of the Celtic Tuatha De Danaans?

In the ancient "myths" the fair-haired De Danaans arrived in great ships from the west and conquered the Firbolg tribes of what would become Ireland.
Then they left again, heading west.
Conversely, these same [?] 'gods' had been here and sailed -east-, promising the indigenous population that they would someday return.
Many Indian tribes [including the Mayans, Aztec & Incans] had legends of 'red-haired gods' who came from the east.
One theory of why Cortez was able to conquer the Aztec so easily is that the Aztec believed that Cortez and his Spaniards were 'the old gods, returned'.
Every "myth" is formed around some tiny speck of of long-forgotten truth much like a pearl is formed around a grain of sand.

There are things about this world which we will simply never know....*unless* we delve deeply into mythopaeic 'history'.
Personally, I find that delightful, intriguing and far beyond fascinating.
I'd rather take that path towards enlightenment than the usual dry bones and potsherds approach.
"History" is a living, breathing mystery and should be appreciated as such....:)

One fascinating little snippet from Google;

The Aztec Empire
The Spanish landed upon the shores of Meso-America in February of the year 1519, in the area of Vera Cruz.
By November of that year, the Spanish fleet, commanded by Hernando Cortez, entered into Tenochtitlan and simply arrested the Emperor of the Aztec, Montezuma.
Within the time span of two years, Cortez dismantled the Aztec monarchy and gained control of all of Tenochtitlan, and many of it's surrounding territories.

Why was the Aztec Empire taken so quickly by the Europeans led by Cortez?
There are many factors to consider in answering such a question. Of the most important is the time in which Cortez entered into Tenochtitlan.
Prior to his arrival, the Aztec had seen many astrological phenomena which seemed to portend the collapse of the empire itself.
These portents of doom ranged from a comet seen in the day time, to the destruction of two temples.
In addition to these omens of doom, Cortez arrived at harvest time, when the Aztec were generally not prepared for war, although there were battles.
Also, the Tlaxcalans helped Cortez fight the Aztecs. Also, the Aztecs believed that the god Quetzalcoatl was going to return and destroy the Aztec empire.
Quetzalcoatl was seen as a man with light hair, and light colored skin, and it was thought by the Aztec, that Cortez was the returning Quetzalcoatl.
Outbreaks of epidemics also helped to weaken the Aztecs. As a result of all of these factors, the Aztec were ripe for an invasion, and Cortez succeeded in decimating the once great Aztec empire.

And just to add more fuel to an already incendiary topic, universities of both Harrisburg PA and Winchester VA have in their possession many "rune stones" of Celtic/Nordic origin found in situ in those states a long time ago.
They will not let anyone see them.

Kinda sounds like a sequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark, doesn't it?....:))

[and thank you very much for the great Si-Te-Cah link]

True but feral hogs [or even farm hogs, for that matter] can be dangerous and unpredictable.

They can run a lot faster than you think.
[ping some Texans or other southerners to this thread and ask them]....LOL!

As a kid, I was allowed the run of the farm...-except- for the hog pens.
The adults fed them and we kids were not allowed to even hang over the fence to look at them lest we fall in.

Hogs can be funny critters.....

The funny part of the KM Discover Channel show was that only after the forensic artist was completely finished, did the uncanny resemble to "Captain Picard" get mentioned.

A degree of difference of height or breadth here or there doesn't really alter the overall resemblance.

I have an original copy of an out of print "banned" book called "The Races of Europe".
It's a fascinating anthropological/scientific dissertation on the dominant physical characteristics of various indigenous peoples.
Pity that it was deemed "offensive" by some, even as far back as the early 1900s.

LOL!

Pickled Pigzilla?

I'll grant you that I've known some 'tame' pigs in my life but as a rule, out of all the other things I've made pets of, pigs were never on the list.

Too unpredictable.

Here's a recent event article for ya;

Farmer Feeds Friend's Corpse to Pigs
Reuters
BERLIN (March 7) - A German farmer confessed to feeding the corpse of an elderly family friend to his pigs and then stealing from his bank account, police said Monday.
Police ruled out murder and the 29-year-old farmer has been charged with improper burial and fraud.
The elderly friend died in the farmer's yard in February 2005 and the farmer, through his mother, had power-of-attorney giving him access to the dead man's bank account and pension.
The farmer initially put the corpse in a deep freezer, police in the German town of Frizlar-Haddamar said, and told curious locals the old man was in a nursing home.
"From lectures about various religions the 29-year-old knew that Buddhists either burn the dead or allow wild animals to eat them. That was how he decided to feed the corpse to his pigs," the police statement said.
He let the corpse thaw, dismembered it and fed it to his pigs. He put the parts the pigs did not eat into a sack and buried it.
The farmer told police "it was a great act of stupidity" and said "the only explanation was his difficult financial situation at the time."

I won't get into the usual obligatory hillbillyisms here but yes, they will eat you....:)
