Not sure.... He doesn't look Arab, if he's not gaited (though if he hangs around FIAB's place he may start trotting funny) he's probably some type of QH or TB, depending on his size and how he looks with more weight on him. How tall is he?

The more I look at him, I think he appears to have remarkably good conformation. In this pic he looks to have a big head, but he's angled toward us, and when the rest of you is that skeletal I suppose anyone's head would look big in comparison. He's got nice straight clean legs, pretty good feet that don't look overly neglected, and I think, a nice structure and the nice upright carriage of a hunter or eventer. I think he's a gem, which makes it even more surprising that someone would waste him.

Just my two cents, and you know I'm always an optimist. :~D

The spray was not concentrated, it was ready to use.

I just go home and went out to the barn, and it looks like my daughter gave her a bath (she is not home). Bumps look like they have went down some. If they do not go away by tomorrow, we will have the vet out.

The spray is called Dura-Guard (not Duramax like my truck's engine..lol). It is made by Absorbine, Permethrin-.20%, Pyrethris - .10% and N.Octly Blcyclolheptene Dicarboximide .50%. Other ingredients 99.2%. Nothing at all what Pyranna has. We won't be using that anymore.

I just got home from the barn. TheNewHorse is at least 5 or 6 years old because he has all his adult front teeth and his canines. I didn't get to look at the flat surfaces of his teeth yet to tell if he was older than that. He tolerated my messing with his lips pretty well, but I didn't wanna push my luck too far just yet. He let me pick up his feet, front and back, and they don't look TOO terribly bad. He could definately use a trim though. He also tolerated my spraying him with fly spray fairly well, at least on the front end. He danced around a bit when I got to the hind end, but didn't totally freak like I've seen some horses do. He did manage to get on my foot one time though. Ouch! I didn't yell or anything, but he seemed to know it and thought he was gonna get in trouble for it coz he tensed up, then he let out a big breath, like he'd been holding it, when I told him it was ok. Poor little bugger, he's probably had a hard time of it.

Poor ol' Bob seems to take exception to him the worst so far. I think he thinks TheNewHorse is gonna steal 'his' mares. Grace has alternately expressed a little interest then threatened to kick his brains out. She's a little heatish I guess and he's a fresh face. His face is all he's got going for him though, coz the rest of him sure ain't nuthin' to write home about! ;o)

TheFarrier is coming tomorrow to shoe Bob so I'll ask him how old he thinks he is.

Did you take any more pictures of him? I think he's got potential. He looks like he's got nice legs on him, at least in the one pic.

If it was a reaction to the spray, a bath would help I'm sure.

I tried to take a pic or two of his teeth, but it was kinda hard to hold his lips up and hold the camera at the same time.

I brushed on him a little bit. He's got some scraggly ol' hair hanging on over his topline in little tufts, especially over his backbones and hips. It's almost painful to look at him he's so thin. I've never seen a horse whose backbone stood up 4 inches higher than his ribs, all the way to the tail. His hips that you noticed in the head-on shot are just pitiful too. I've seen hips like that on a cow, but never a horse. Then I look at Tennessee, who probably outweighs him by 600 pounds, even though he's not that much taller, and it's just mindboggling.

How tall is he?

I have seen one that bad, two actually, and they were on the property of a 'friend'. I sicked Bob on her. They were that thin, and had the added problem of feet that stuck out in a big curl like elf shoes.

Well, you have a better eye then I do. Altho his legs and feet do look remarkably well considering the rest of him.

Poor guy.

I'd sure want to find the person who allowed this to happen. Surly they couldn't make you give him back?

Wow, Frog, you sure know how to pick 'em!

That is a VERY nice looking boy (at least, his BONES look nice.) He's not very old, and I'd put money on his being a TB, QH or Appendix, depending on how tall he is. Just for grins, pull up his upper lip and see if there's anything tattooed in there.

I do wonder though if he has some sort of health issue that caused somebody to toss him away. He looks too good to starve.

He looks too good to starve.

I think so too. I think he looks like a gem if he's not seriously compromised in some way.

He's somewhere between 15 and 16 hands. I thought he looked a little bit Thorobreddy too. He's got an awfully long, upright shoulder and high withers. He's got a BIG ol' trot on him too, not that I'm too familiar with that gait. ;o)

It's hard to tell in that pic, but does his neck seem a little short? Seems like as thin as he is his neck ought to look longer.

I'd have the vet to him before you start feeding him up too heavy, or worming him.

Did you look for a tattoo on his lip? If he's TB, he'd have one if he was ever registered with the jockey club.

Maybe, but he's angling toward us too... and when they're thin they never look like they have a good neck, they lose the crest and look ewe necked even when they aren't.

I'm thinking more of the overall length - as thin as he is it ought to look longer.

Of course, I'M the one that owns a giraffe . . . when I ride somebody's pony I feel like I'm going right over the head any minute . . .

I didn't look for a tatoo yet. Didn't see your post until after I got home. I'll check tomorrow. I'll bet he hasn't got one though. Not too many registered TBs around these parts.

If there was one you'd have likely noticed it when you lifted his lip to look in his mouth. They aren't subtle.
