Me now. I just got back from my first trail riding club meeting.
Describe flares? Another farrier told me that my horses hooves were too long. They all seem to think different though.
She. Actually it was an exercise. I was working with her on something that she has problems with and I walked by the cones and hoops. She's so funny about her ears. I put one on and she just stood there so I put the other on. No reaction. I thought I would just she what she did when they fell off. I have to do exercises with them so...Anyway, after about 15 minutes it was obvious she wasn't gonna drop them.
No, really. I don't know much about this stuff.
Flares are going to be hard to explain, especially since it looks like your horses foot isn't flaring:). I looked for a picture but couldn't find a good one.
If you take and cover the bottom 2/3 of your horses hoof with your hand. From the hair line (coronet band), down the first 1/3 of the hoof, notice the angle. Then uncover the bottom 2/3 the angle will change and flare out. A foot without flaring will have the same angle all the way down the hoof wall.
From my understanding, and my understanding could be very iffy:), I'm just learning all this stuff too, A flat shoe, puts pressure on the hoof wall with each step and over time will cause the hoof wall to pull away for the bone inside the foot, flare it out. With the beveled shoe you relieve that pressure. In the wild a barefoot horses hoof will wear more rolled like a beveled shoe, rather then flat like a flat shoe. When the hoof wall pulls away from the bone the bone drops down and is closer to the ground making them more sensitive.
In the wild a horses foot wears also more squared off in the front then what a regular shoe is shaped like. A regular shoe changes the breakover of the foot and that can cause problems in legs, joints, back.
That's how I understand it:)

So when's your first trail ride?
What was discussed at a trail riding meeting?
Becky
What a beautiful face on that mare. I don't know, I think she's a medicine hat but I'm not an authority on paints.
:) I really like her pink halter. Stylish.
You have a picture of a beveled? Or a post #? What was the NP(?) you mentioned?
When you see pics:') (It's embarressing how I plan stuff and then things happen)
Did you ever find out what was in the duct taped trash can?
Well he looks good in pink - very masculine too :)
No, I've still never looked into the duct taped trash can :~{ It's still out there...
Now Harley would look good in teal or turquoise :)
Becky
I wouldn't be able to stand not knowing what's in it :) I also wouldn't open it myself.
Here's a link to the Natural Balance Horse shoeing site, I've been reading.

Nobody duct-tapes a trash can shut.
thanks
LOL - that's what bothers me. Why did they duct tape it shut?
