Me too. If he's at the next level of treatment stage, we might have to do that... We'll see what he thinks.

Between evaluating Bay, and doing regular checkups and maybe teeth on one or more of them, he could be here a long time.

Yeah, I've mentioned all that. With no luck:\

I think most of her problem is money. She's by herself and does the best she can. She's got 5 horses. She needs to sell all of them except maybe 2 (really one would be enough), but that's not going to happen. She's very attached. She also has like 6-7 dogs, and 10-12 cats, 40 chickens.

I'm not really meaning to bash her, and she does better then most people would with her money, but some of those animals need to go.

I'm not meaning to bash her either, just think she'll get more years out of that horse by getting a few things done.

He could look a lot better.

I sure hate to see that Bay is having foot troubles again. If there's any chance that it might be a laminitis flare up, you might want to ice his feet. In that clinic I went to, they said icing was one of the best things to do, and to keep ice in the water at all times, not just cold water. I wouldn't bute him because that'll mess up the evaluation that the farrier or vet might do. I think I'd go ahead and go with the vet.

Hello ya'll.

I may be taking an assignment at the South Texas Project which is located about 90 miles southwest of Houston?

Anybody know anything about that area? Anybody living out near there now?

Also, if I go, I think that I will buy another horse when I get settled in there. So I'll be looking for reputable Quarter Horse dealers and riding trails.

BTW, I had my old stud's (he's 26) teeth floated in the fall and he still drops a lot of food, but hell, he always has. And even though I feed more than a maintaince amount of grain and he's on pasture and hay all day, I've noticed that he is beginning to lose flesh from the withers down along the spine and he ain't got near the spunk that he had just two years ago. It's just part of a horse's aging process.

I'll let you catch up... the update is we ended up ruling out laminitis and the vet is coming this morning. I had already given Bay the big dose of Isoxuprine and the Bute last night when the vet called with the change in plans, but he said OK, just don't give him anything this morning.

Finding and dealing with lameness is this vet's favorite specialty. He really enjoys just watching horses move and finding the problem. He spent hours here watching Bay the first time. He didn't want to come till he had time to do that again. When he leaves, I'm sure I'll feel like we found the problem.

Yeah, I did finally catch up and saw that you had it covered. Good deal! I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.

Just to keep your mind off of it, here's the promised picture of Ellie's partial haircut. She looks downright moth-eaten and she's at the gangly stage too. Poor girl! I didn't get to finish it yesterday either. Been working on taxes. She'll look a lot better when I get her done.

Here's another one I found to lighten your mood:

If you find yourself in really big trouble, try to blend in and act like you know what you're doing

I will say this... Bay is ~furious~ at being locked in the paddock this morning - pacing and trotting around and chasing the pony - so he doesn't feel too bad.

The past week he's been moping around so much I didn't think he'd care if he was cooped up.

LOL! Poor guy. Tennessee does that to all the youngsters when I'm getting the feed buckets ready at suppertime. He's mad at me for being slow, so he takes it out on everybody else within biting range. But like you say, at least he feels good enough to be cranky.

You may end up having to put a grazing muzzle on him. I'm thinking that's what I'm going to have to do to Tennessee. The more I read, the more his weight gain sounds like Metabolic Disorder. I sure will hate it if that's the case, because he'll have to be taken off ALL grain and just be fed hay, no fresh grass at all, and BOY will he be unhappy. Talk about aggravating! I guess I need to think about some kind of dry lot arrangement in the near future.

The tack room looks great! I like the saddle racks on the wall. That gives you plenty of room to put things underneath.

Are you making a permanent move to Texas or just doing the long distance commute thing like you did while in Florida?

It's 12' x 24'. Plenty of room for all my stuff. Now I can park in the garage again.

Not moving to Texas. Just a road assignment. Haven't taken it yet but I like to be prepared just in case.
