I think the strangest pet related injury I ever saw was back when I was in college and worked in the ER of the local hospital. These people came rushing in one night, one of them carrying a small boy, the other one carrying a large pointer type dog. It seems that someone had left their fishing tackle out and the dog found it irresistable and proceeded to get a large lure with 3 trebble hooks hanging from it stuck in his nose. In his pain, he was thrashing about and got stuck to the couch, then the boy attempted to rescue him and got stuck to the dog AND the couch. It was really a mess because the boy had grabbed the lure in his fist and the hooks were keeping it closed. I can only imagine the time those people had keeping that dog still on the ride to the hospital. The ER Doc managed to separate the the dog from the boy by pushing the hooks on through the dog's nose and cutting off the barbs, but he had a devil of a time getting the lure out of the boy's closed fist. After it was all over, it was really funny but I'm sure it wasn't to those involved at the time. I'm also sure that somebody got their butt in big trouble for leaving their lures laying around where the dog could get into them. ;o)

I just got back....what a wonderful ride:). We did 2 hours, my spirit wanted to go more, but the legs just weren't having it:). Not only am I out of shape from not riding much, it's really a stretch on this wider saddle. I figure a week of consistent riding, and I won't feel it so much, hopefully:) 2 hours was probably all I need to take Harley anyway. He struggled on the really long steep hills.

I checked his back he was not sore anywhere, so I'm just going to keep on.

Will go again tomorrow, probably give him Sun. off, then really start hitting it on Mon. Celia's coming to ride.

Western saddles really feel different after you've been used to riding an english with a narrower twist. You feel like your hips are going to come out of their sockets until you get used to it again. 2 hours sounds like a good workout ride. It's nice that you have enough trails right there at your place to be able to do that. I have to trailer everywhere. I can ride the barefoot horses there at the barn on the paved roads, but I don't like riding shod horses on pavement. They can fall too easily if something spooks them. When's your next CTR?

End of May. He should be fine to go by then.

Yeah, I love it here where we live. We think of moving sometimes, but one of the main reasons we stay is because of the trails available for me to ride. I could probably ride as much 6 hours and not do the same trails twice.

When I'm by myself I stick close to home so I double up on trails sometimes. I try to zig zag the creek from both directions, gives us lots of good hills to climb, then I have a few places that are flat and not too rocky to do long trotting and loping one. I only have to get out on a road for maybe 1/2 mile, and it's a very very quiet road, very seldom have cars pass.

But it has it's disadvantages too. I get lazy about trailering, and trailering to new places really helps make a good trail horse. I'm going to try to get someoen to go with me to Arrowhead before the next CTR just for Harley to have some trailering, but with gas prices like they are, no one really wants to go too far.

I know whatcha mean about the gas prices. They went up another dime here yesterday. Regular is back up to about $2.70. I just WISH I could burn regular. I gotta put premium in my old jeep and it takes about 22 gallons to fill it up. Most of the places I trailer to are somewhere in the 40 to 60 mile range and I only get about 10 or 11mpg when I'm pulling, so I usually burn up a half a tank every time I go anywhere. I put $65 in my tank yesterday, so 30-something dollars a ride is kinda ouchy!

Thanks:)

Oh, and so you all know that I do listen to suggestions, I moved the saddle back some, and put a navajo under the pad. Worked great!!!!

I had no roll at all the whole ride, I even had to dismount once when nature called:), and when I went to get back on, no problem. When I got home and unsaddled I discovered I could have pulled the cinch up another 3-4 inches, but even with it that loose it stayed right in place. Wouldn't you think that means it fits good???

I'm trying different bits too. I think I'm heading in the right direction there too. So things are definitly improving.

Sure sounds like it. I am glad the extra blanket did not cause you any problems. I look at it this way, more cushion feels good to me on a chair, so it has to feel better for the horse. The little bit more weight, should not be a problem either. Besides, those blankets are a heck of a lot better to clean than a pad.

I always hold my breath when I'm on pavement with a horse, especially a squirelly one. I HATE riding on pavement for any reason.

*chuckle* Poor dog. Well, poor kid too, but he at least was more likely to have learned something. We had a cocker spaniel in, not so long ago, that had lunge forward and grabbed the baited hook before the owner could cast it. Swallowed the whole thing. Idiot owner is more upset about cutting his fishing trip short than the dog and can't see why we can't 'just pull it out by the string.' Oh, and it's closing time? On a Friday night? We took a radiograph and verified that it was in the stomach and the dog needed either endoscopy (which we don't have) or surgery. So we sent them to the emergency clinic. The guy went hom and waited until business hours the next day to take the dog to the other clinic. What a jerk.

Good morning.

It's windy, windy, windy, and cold here today. The high is suppose to be in the 60's but with this wind...I don't know.

I'm suppose to ride with the young girl that I rode with a few times last summer. She called last night...suppose to be here at 11:30.

Good Morning.

Cold and windy here too. Not much outdoor activity today. Although, it is suppose to warm up next week. At least the sun is shining. In Northeast Ohio, that is a blessing.

You all have a fun weekend!

It actually warmed up enough that the ride was very pleasant. It's still a bit windy but it was comfortable just being in a sweatshirt. I rode for about 2 1/2 hours.

I'm on my way now to PetSmart to pick up a new bit. I'm going to try this:

My car only runs good on premium too. I paid 2.89. I got a speeding ticket too. You think I can turn that in on my cost report?:')

I was in my hotel in Austin and hail/storm warnings were going across the tv screen. The sun was shining!
