Just wanted to let everyone know, it wasn't me.

I didn't crash my Ferrari while speeding in Malibu.

You obviously have not been on Highway 67 between Ft. Stockton, Texas and Alpine, Texas ( or I-10 netween Ft. Stokton and Van Horm or US 90 south of Van Horn, Texas ).

Not a better road in the US for winding it out except for maybe I-94 in North Dakota and Montana in the summer of course.

Unforunately, Airbags can do extensive damage as well as kill you if are activated other than a head on collision.

Back in '92 between San Diego and Long Beach. Seemed smooth enough. Why, you have road commission problems out there off the main highway??

Well, indeed there are many areas I have not seen. What I do remember about CA, is the banked curves and tight expansion joints on the highways. I always thought about what it would be like to take a Bonsai run out there...

It's definitely an Enzo, you can tell in the video because of the way the door opens.

660 horsepower and a claimed 217 mph top speed, sounds like the driver was simply verifying the manufacturers claims. Hey, when you spend almost $1 million, you want to make sure you didn't get cheated. {;^)

Most (not all) of the freeways in Southern California are designed for comfortable operational speeds that are well over the posted speed limit. Most curves for instance are 'ball-banked' for speeds ten miles an hour over the advisory speed limits posted. Please nobody put this to the test though -- the over-design is intentional for safety reasons.

PCH is not a freeway but a skilled driver could easily take a quality sports car at high speeds up the coast on PCH -- if it were a 'closed track'. But traffic is way too heavy at any time of day to do what this driver was doing.

Maybe some day it could be closed for the purpose of permitting a 'rally'. It would probably an exciting as well as beautiful drive.

(sigh)...

Maybe in my next life. Untill then, I'll just settle with my reality here in the greater Detroit area!

Story update - it was an Enzo:

One person was treated at the scene for a minor injury just after 6:15 a.m., where the Ferrari hit an electrical pole and was sheared in half, with the front section separated from the rest of the vehicle.

Stefan Erikssen, 44, of Los Angeles, and a Swedish national, told authorities he was the owner of the destroyed Ferrari Enzo. Erikssen, whose blood-alcohol level was .09, claims he was the passenger at the time of the crash, and that the driver ran off after the crash, Sheriff’s Sgt. Philip Brooks said.

Erikssen told police that a German named Dietrich was driving the car. Police say the Ferrari may have been involved in a race with a Mercedes.

The Ferrari was driving in excess of 120 mph when the accident happened. It skidded up the side of the hill and most likely went airborne, Brooks said. The race was allegedly staged following a late-night party in Beverly Hills.

Detectives are investigating whether Erikssen was actually the driver, but no one has been arrested yet.

"The fact (is) that the ‘passenger’ is the registered owner of the vehicle, from the Beverly Hills/Bel Air area; the ‘passenger’ had blood on his mouth; and both airbags on the car deployed, but only the driver's side airbag had blood on it, not the passenger side," Brooks said.

The Ferrari Enzo is a limited-edition vehicle worth between $600,000 and $1 million. It has 650 horsepower and a published top speed of 225 mph.

Done my fastest in NV on US 95. I-70 across Utah is also pretty fast.
