Woo Hoo... we just changed color, to the 50K+ group, and yet another 10,000+ point update.
Long mardi gras weekend, so I've got all my labs left on, so I can do windows updates, load Symantec corporate edition 10, and some other updates, so most of my babies, should come back into the (within 7 day) status..... (and keep me ahead of DU in points)... :)
My next personal goal, is to reach 1,000,000 points, before they do.
Most of our apps are web based, and we use Firefox almost exclusively, and when you approach a desktop, that's maxed out on F@Home, click on Firefox, you get about a 4-5 second "shakedown" and "rotate" period, where the hard drive churns, and then control is handed back over to the local user.
So far, keeping them at 70% or so, seems to minimize the noticeable "lag".
Apps like word, excel, etc, are always sluggish at startup, so whatever F@H does to them, isn't noticeable
Woot! 50k Group is impressive.
I won't be hitting a million for a bit, but if I go all-in, I could prolly get 10k/day. I'm somewhat loathe to add in the 50+ 1.3ghz junkers I've got floating around. I'm not sure it's worth bothering. My slowest 1.6ghz machine has done about 20WUs in 2 months. My fastest have done north of 100WUs in the same period.
I installed NAV 10 a couple months back. No issues. You shouldn't have any problems.
Looking at our 24 hour stats, we're 28th.
That rocks. To get much beyond that would require a 10x number of cpus. But, that said, we're not chopped liver!
With my son's gaming computer now assimilated...I will break into the top 100 in about 12 days.
Ouch...My Fry/Mwave/Newegg frankenbuild 1.3ghz does very nicely thank you. Actually I lust for more CPU but it's hard to justify to Mrs Drango. We web surf, and do a little word, and some adobe stuff for a web page. 1.3ghz works fine for what we do. It does suck at folding however.
Heh, don't take it personally. For my particular application, 1.3ghz is rock bottom. It works but doesn't have much left to spare. One of the goals I was tasked with when I joined my current company was to move us into the window's age. I had it done within 6 months. The dinkweed before me was throwing up roadblocks why it wouldn't work. I bulldozed him. I said "what's you're solution? Oh, no solution? shut up then". Literally, that's what I said. Sometimes people are so invested in the status quo that they are stuck.
That was in 2000. I recently decreed that all machines over 5 years old are to be replaced. The wailing and gnashing of teeth was epic, but I'm exceptional at what I do :). So I while I'm in the process of replacing all that 1.3 junk, I'll toss FAH at those boxes, perhaps throttled a bit. I just put in a recent 2.8 box to see how it behaves at 100% FAH. Probably will peel it back some, but time will tell.
Been holding back, but only have less than a 100 Win98 machines left, so it's time to finally upgrade. Those, I'll contain, and put on "un-managed" status, so they'll get live updates from the web, vice from parent servers, and leave at v9.03
Don't sneer at the old 1.(something) computers. 24 of my servers, are win2k, with 512mb of ram, still do their day job, and churn our about 160 points per week each, after hours.

9PM update - 10,570 massive points (47 WUs)!
This must be our record update
Sorry, gonna sneer. For my application, 1.x doesn't have enough ass. While they spend about 6 hours idle daily(we run two 10 hour shifts, toss in lunch and break), it's really not worth it. As I replace them, it's a different issue. The new machines should be able to run full production and fold reasonable numbers. As I said, I put a single one of those in and I'll monitor it for a month or so and see how it pans out.
My machines work, and work hard. A 1.3 was taxed, a 2.8 lopes along. I'm certainly willing to have it fold these days. I just need to pay attention to how well it's getting along and thereafter can toss in a bunch of them if it's not an issue.
Smart move in a production environment. I use to support 250 desktops. The users always wanted their machine to do the latest and greatest on a Windoze '98 486 box...(hey Mr. Drango this computer sucks...it won't run the latest software we bought last week). My response to them was: "as good as I am, even I, the all powerful DRANGO, can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear". They would nod attentively, and then add new computers into their next year's budget.
In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king!
nope... we had an 11,000 pointer, a day or two ago... But not bad, all things considered.
Sigh, I havn't even had my recent additions check in so much(3 have). It should improve from there with an extra 15+ machines. heh.
Can't wait. Records are meant to be broken anyway :)
I find it annoying. heh. I add in 18+ machines on Thursday and while 8 or so were shut down, I don't see a number boost. THAT is quite annoying. To add insult, 2 of them were on the same circuit that blew when we move a refrig into my lab. I unplugged the fridge and flipped the breaker that had tripped. STill though, if you watch the extreme overclockign forum on me, it's going to jump big very soon.
Of course I see that. :) Within the next day or so you should see a run up of my numbers. As required and as he adds machines in, I can too. heh.
