Ps2/USB adapter wont work (help Vanity)

You could replace the motherboard but its better to get a new computer with the latest technology since everything needs upgrading. The more ports, the better. And PS2 and parallel ports are going by the wayside since its much easier to plug hardware peripherals into a superfast USB 2.0 port.

The unknown device refers to a hub issue is which Windows XP doesn't recognize a connected USB 2.0 hub as a Generic Hub. Usually downloading USB 2.0 drivers configured to work with the USB 2.0 card will resolve the issue but if it doesn't there's a hotfix from Microsoft that will force Windows XP to accept the connected hub. After installing the hotfix, one should uininstall the USB 2.0 drivers, reboot and the connect the hub. Windows XP should then see it and install it along with the appropriate drivers as a Generic Hub. Hope this helps.

Many keyboards and mice are designed to accept multiple signalling protocols. Nearly all adapters for "PS2 to serial" or vice versa, and "PS2 to USB" are pinout adapters only, and do not do any signalling conversion; they will thus only work with keyboards that are designed to accept the signalling protocol in question.
