Yes, it also is a factor in chronic fatigue syndrome, and epstein-barr.

I got it because someone took a drink from my soda and didn't tell me until afterwards. And they'd just had a 'minor cold' recently. (They had a mild case of mono.)

Go here and read up on it: http://www.cfids.org/

I had thought of that when Darks mentioned Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

I have the CFIDS, but nary a sign of Epstein-Barr or Gillaume Barre. And to my knowledge, I've never had mono.

I guess they are still the dark about CFIDS.

Yes, they are. It's not terminal, so there is no rush to find a cause, and therefore, no rush to find a cure. So far, all they know from research is that it is most likely auto-immune in nature, and slows down the brain. The rest of the 40+ symptoms are up for grabs.
It actually affects more people than breast cancer or heart disease, each year. But, like I said, it isn't terminal. Once a person has it, they will never be free of it, and will subject to relapses forever. But they won't die of it.

I guess it's like that with a lot of non-terminal conditions.

Actually? Not really.

CFIDS always changes a person and how that person is able to conduct life. Most career people who have it are never able to work again. It consists of a life of relapses and remissions and even the remissions often have small relapses. There is no such thing as a "social life" and often, a simple thing like making a grocery list is a major task, requiring superhuman effort.

Within two years of the original onset, I was still struggling with trying to keep my job, even though I was lucky to work eight hours in 40. Within six more months, I had lost my job, my car, my apartment, my credit, my self-esteem, and a husband. And was told repeated by doctors that it was "all in my head."

It IS life-altering, make no mistake about that. And no one is immune.

(I wouldn't wish it on anyone.)

What I meant is, that they are in no rush to find cures for non-terminal illnesses in general.

Not really...I mean, polio, measles and chicken pox seldom killed, unless a person was otherwise compromised, but there are vaccines, and now, we have a world without those diseases. (Not sure about measles...I think it has been wiped out...)

And there is no "cure" for heart disease, but most people don't realize they have a problem until it's too late. It's just been recently that the researchers have discovered that men and women have differing symptoms for the same disease...that a heart attack affects a woman much differently. They often die because of misdiagnosis.

Yeah, I thought that it was kind of kooky.

I hope that this guy isn't a full-time illustrator.
