However, during that 35 minutes, the “SOLD OUT” sign came on for Brokeback. Out of curiosity, he went in to the Brokeback theater, and only saw 4 people in there.

Maybe that is the rated capacity for the movie.. homos in dark places may want privacy.

Seriously, though.. anything you heard "some guy on talk-radio" say has to be taken with a grain of salt.

It seems to me that theatre owners are businessmen and I cannot even imagine they would post a "sold out" sign guaranteeing no sales at all. These people typically don't ensure expenses greater than revenues.

I've been wanting to go see 'Bareback Mounted' wearing a 'Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy' t-shirt.

Y'know, just to cause trouble....

I think the whole movie was based on a joke. I cannot repeat the entire joke, but the punchline is: "Well, Moo-Moo, Buckaroo."

A few days ago, a local radio personality said that everyone who called in could have one of two free prizes (their choice). One was two tickets to see Bareback Mountain. The other was a roll of Certs. He cut it off when the box of Certs was gone. During that time, he gave away 75 rolls of Certs and 3 pairs of tickets.

I recall a similar type story concerning The Passion of the Christ. Hollywood is not quite what you might call honest.

Don't know if this passes the smell test.

Why would the theater hang a "sold out" sign on a theater with only four seats filled.

What would stop the theater from selling an additional 10 seats even if it was sold out, unless the ticket program is programmed to stop selling tickets once the seats are all bought?

Anybody know the answer to that question?

Here's what some theater managers were found to be doing when Mel Gibson's movie "The Passion of the Christ" was so controversial.

They were selling "Passion's" viewers tickets that upon examination, were actually to other movies (as reported here on FR at the time).

They get away with it on the probability that 99% of moviegoers probably never look at their tickets. They just hand it to the ticket-checker, and go in.

Those who do notice and question it are either told it's just a mistake, or "stonewalled" (pun intended).

Ask yourselves. If they are willing to do that to suppress sales of one movie, aren't more than likely willing to do the same thing to inflate the sales of another?

If you buy out a movie theater on Moviefone, it is considered SOLD OUT, even if no one attends. The numbers then go into Box Office Mojo, etc, and count. I would not be surprised, given the critical importance to the Left that this film "succeed", that Harvey Weinstein himself were buying up all the tickets. The man is worth seveal hundred million dollars. Laying out $1-2 million is chump change to falsely portray "B.M." as a mainstream hit and pump this up for the Oscars.

They did the same thing with 'The Passion', only in reverse. There were stories of them attributing 'Passion' ticket sales to other movies.

I have no doubt they CAN do this and HAVE done this before!

No one is going to see this pile of trash.

That won't stop the liars in the media from fabricating a nice little success story, however. After all, part of marketing cultural Stalinism involves making official party ideology appear mainstream.

Has anyone thought about this???? Maybe the theater manager was ashamed of this movie, Brokeback Mountain, so he decided to just turn on the SOLD OUT sign so that no one could buy another ticket to see it?
