Guardians
Soldiers still as stone silently staring into the dark,
watching the shifting shadows slide across the night.
Listening with a careful ear tuned to sounds not right,
or staring into the muted green flow of a night sight,
ready to unleash hell on those creeping or surging to dart.
In the light of day they scan the land for things not right,
a movement, a sound, a vehicle moving a bit too fast.
They are ready if the blow comes, and they intend to last,
giving better then they get, their big hammers set to blast,
and the enemy hides like roaches from their ready might.
Hell of job they do and yet their filled with honest pride,
strong hearts and willing to stand in the face of it all.
These are the best of the best, and they stand so tall,
and we need to remember each one, even those who fall,
honor them as they crush evil wherever it tries to hide!
