OK, from CBS Sportsline...

DALLAS can clinch a playoff berth with:

EITHER a win and
EITHER a Washington loss or tie
OR a Carolina loss
OR a Tampa Bay loss and a N.Y. Giants loss
and the N.Y. Giants and Dallas clinch a strength of victory tiebreaker over Tampa Bay
OR a tie and Washington loss

____________________________________

Now, the Giants won, so that eliminates everything below "Tampa Bay loss..." (Tampa is in with Giants winning)

SO

Dallas has to win and Washington has to lose or tie, or Carolina has to lose.

Not the best odds, but you got a shot!

yes, (try to) go Eagles. Seven wins is more than 6. (sarcasm off)

Happy New Year!

NY Giants:

Passing 191
Rushing 211

Looks like Eli did his part. Also several passes were good but dropped by the receivers.

Also, a Dallas win and a Washington tie gets Dallas in the playoffs...

What a way to ring in the New Year-NFC East Champs. I have a feeling we'll win the first game in our home, go on the road and beat an overrated Chicago or Seattle and then be back home to host the NFC Championship because the other top seed will get knocked out by a wild card team. We should win the NFC Championship but we will get crushed in the big game.

Take a look.

I swear, some fans are so ridicuolously rabid. And utterly immature and classless. I see it on Big Blue Interactive. I see it on Extremeskins. It's like DU without the politics. It's mind-boggling how 'possessed' they seem. I mean, look at this genius:

What the f*** is the point of f***in replay?!?!? They gave Alstot the f***in 2 pointer but this doesn't qualify as a touchdown? Bullsh*t!!! I am so f***in tired of the gnats being the darlings of the league. They get ONE MORE HOME GAME, read that again, ONE MORE HOME GAME, and now, when they have a chance to CLINCH THE DIVISION (just like the commish wants them to), they get a B.S. call that goes their way, while we constantly get f***ed in the @$$ by the zebras. F*** tags and f*** wellington mara; the gnats would have died in the f***in Yale Bowl if mara hadn't been so "buddy butty" with roselle, so f*** roselle while we're at it. I hope they're both burning in hell! We should have clinched the division, but no, instead we have to settle for a wild card because everyone hates us and loves the gnats. F*** EVERYONE! GO SKINS!!!

My goodness. How nice of him to use the death of a wonderful man so lightly. And remember the Giants' extra home game?

The NFL loves NY. Why else would the Gints be the only team in history to have an extra home game. Tirico is a homer for the Gints as well. You can be sure the zebras had their marching orders for tonight's game...no way the Gints could be allowed to lose this game.

How about one of the most destructive hurricanes that struck an area the size of Great Britain you nimrod? What else was the NFL supposed to do? I mean, it's nearly psychotic about how people obsess over the Giants' extra home game (if it were against someone else, it would be different, but where were the Saints supposed to play on such short notice?). I mean...gah. Here's some more gems.

how many ppl did you sign from the streets. i only heard one guy and he made a couple of plays. stop being a homo...ur team got raped at our stadium and our owner didnt die...

And BBI's no different.

(response to an Eli incompletion)Elisha: EWhat the fooook was dat!!?

Is ANYONE: going to cover 85 or are they just going to let him sh!t all over us tonight? Pathetic.

(referring to Redskins' fans)FCUK THOSE DOUCHES: they can all drop dead

It's amazing at the crudeness and immaturity that's rampant on these boards. Even my father - another Giants fan who used to frequen BBI - has remarked on the flood of immature posts with swear words ahoy. I'm in awe at how some people can act. I'm just glad I haven't found a Cowboys or Eagles board yet.

It's one of the reasons I'm so grateful for Free Republic. All of the NFL fans on here...are reasonable, decent folk. They're courteous, they're classy, and they don't resort to crudeness (sure, there's taunting occasionally, but it's all in good, clean fun). I guess I'm just spoiled, but seriously; why can't fans take themselves more seriously? They paint their teams badly with such horrible behavior.

Eh, rant over. Had to get it out of my system. Guess I was just a bit miffed at how similar some of the content was to DU.

Dunno what was worse about that 4th-down play - In that situation, you take the 3, get the ball back, and go for the TD. Unlike hockey, that gun doesn't go off until the ball is down, and you can easily extend the game an extra 10 seconds on a play.

Don't get me wrong, I had the Giants -8, so I'm happy that Norv Turner's a complete idiot. That he is one unfortunately just made the Packers vs Jets tiebreaker (Strengths of Schedule) that much harder for the Packers to win the higher draft choice.

Tomorrow shall come a new thread.

Just found this earlier in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

****

Will the Bengals tank it in Kansas City today to try to avoid playing the Steelers next week? A Cincinnati loss coupled with a New England victory would pit the Jacksonville Jaguars against the Bengals and the Steelers at the New England Patriots.

There's a strong feeling in Cincinnati that the Bengals would be better off playing against the Jaguars than the Steelers. That prompted veteran offensive tackle Willie Anderson to address the possible matchup.

"Don't panic. Cincinnati, do not panic," he said. "If we're playing Pittsburgh, don't get scared on us now. It's a home game. Let's all be excited.

"Our city should be excited about getting a home playoff game. If it's Pittsburgh, it's Pittsburgh. We'll take them on."

****

LOL. Is fear setting in already in the Queen City?

;-)

Seriously though, I find it a little funny that the fans over there in Cincinnati are starting to gag at the thought of playing the Steelers in the playoffs. But of course ...... they should.

Tomorrow shall come a new thread.

When? Who is starting this? I got the eggs frying, let's get this going. The tailgaters are already smokin' here in Pittsburgh.

It'd be ironic if they got JAX and still lost.

Yep, the Chi Sports media is going back and forth...

They say: Let him play, shake out his "willy's" because he got hurt there, he needs more than 6 quarters going into the playoffs, but his O-Line starters won't be there, then he WILL get hurt, on and on and on...

I say, PLAY HIM!
