Students also said they thought the tall glasses held more, suggesting they were trying to compensate for size when pouring into the short, wide glasses. Compensating for size..... of what?

That pic reminds me of my 2 liter beer boot I bought in Germany about 22 years ago. It holds 8 bottles of US/Canadian beer. Here is an example. The one on the right...

There's a pub in Germantown, WI (about 20 miles north of Milwaukee) that will serve beer in boots that size.
I've seen people have them and that's a ton of beer.
