What a list. There'll never be another Sinatra. He was cool before bein' cool was cool.
And Aretha. She sang AT you, not to you, and when you've been sung at by Aretha, you know you' been sung at. Nobody can touch her.
The only singer that really sings anything anymore, aside from some good country voices out there (that's where the voices seem to be going...) is Harry Connick, Jr. He might end up in that class.
But there sure is a poverty of voice outside of that.
We were discussing that during the Christmas production (used part of the song for a scene intro).
As the story was told, he was doing a live special with Judy Garland, and they apparently hated each other. So, they're singing "The Christmas Song" on live TV. He's at the piano.
Judy is singing the wrong words.
Mmm...Harry Conick Jr... I also like that he plays as well as sings - there are sadly very few who do that anymore.
Did I mention I need more CDs?
Have you heard much of Michael Buble?
Glenn Beck was pretty excited about him. But I stopped listening to Beck for the holidays.
Now you see why I stick with country music!
Though ... I do find country rap amusing ... and I've developed a fondness for Emimem here recently.
I suspect senility is just around the corner!
No... can't say that I have. What's he do?
~deep sigh~
Marvelous. Just marvelous.
Thank you for introducing me to Billy Eckstine!
My sister got one of his CDs for Christmas - she's been telling me I need to hear him, but I haven't yet.
Uh... um... um... but... well, that's... uh... um...
[/speechless] :-)
There's such a thing as country rap? Is this maybe one of the signs of the apocalypse? [peeking outside] [trying to picture Johnny Cash doing rap version of "Ring of Fire".
Emineminumunum. Munnah munnah. Munnah munnah.
*Listening to clips of all of these on the itunes music store*
Check out a clip or two on Amazon. ;-)
ummmm...sings...
Drat, could'a sworn I had 'Ring of Fire' on my pod but I only have 'Ghost Riders in the Storm'
When I hear "country rap", I think of things like "Hot Rod Lincoln" and "Boy Named Sue", but I guess those don't really qualify...
Sounds like Benny Hill....
Doo doo-doo doo doo...
Did he use that for a theme song? I didn't know.
Yup.
At least, I think so.....
Dang 80s fried my brain...
Listening to "Hot Rod Race". Similar sound as "Hot Rod Lincoln".
But I find myself playing the old stuff --- Motown and Stax and Atlantic, and good old Sunday gospel you'd hear on the radio. The only new stuff I listen to is country.
I was rather surprised that I could find Marshall Mathers interesting, if profane ... I guess I'm not so old, after all!
