I'll have some of what you're eating.

Put the money in your checking account, write a check for the same amount and put THAT into the collection plate for your tax deduction.

(A friend of mine found a $5000 chip on the sidewalk in front of a major casino in VEGAS, he cashed it in the next day and kept the cash.)

I found this money:

I would like to donate to my church, but they only take checks.
Would you please send me a check for $100,000. Then I'll send you the money. Thanks.

I guess the person who lost it had no idea where the money was dropped or maybe they went back there before you posted the notice. I am truly surprised no one has called with a fishing expedition, so to speak. LOL

If I saw that note, I would prank call you. There are just too many things to report missing....starting with my dignity and my long lost virginity.

Wow, I can't believe the amount of people on here suggesting you keep it. Don't. Take it to the nearest police station to where you found it and give it to them. If no one comes in looking for it it will end up with you. Then you will have it with a clean conscience.

That's the trouble with cash, it really doesn't "belong" to anyone. If it was in a wallet, I'd say take the cash and throw the wallet in a mailbox. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!

Tell security about it, but don't tell them the amount. If anyone inquires with them as to the lost dough, they can contact you, and you can verify the amount. If no one contacts you....your church will be a glad recipient. Good luck.

If there was any chance of getting it back to the owner then of course you should try.

It appears that is extremely unlikely in this case. I would either keep it or put it in the collection plate.

I found money in a bathroom stall in an airport once. There was about $100 in cash, some change, and luckily, the guy's business cards. No credit cards, but I think what he did was take the stuff out of his pants before, well, taking care of business.

I figured it hadn't been there too long since it was still there! So, I hustled to a gate and had them page the guy. I forgot if they said found something of yours or not, but pretty soon, he showed up. He wanted to give me a few dollars, but I refused. It was no trouble on my part, and I'd want someone doing that for me. Actually gave me something to do for 10 minutes or so while waiting for my flight, so I was happy to do it!

Glad you did the right thing. A generic ad like that could probably be posted for free in the Lost and Found section for FREE (usually).....if you think you need to go even further....

If it is more than $200, I believe that most places require you to report it to the police. After about 10 days the money is yours if no one claims it.

Oh, so I was supposed to be giving that money back to the people who turned it in when I was on the force? :-)

I dropped it off at the local police station with my name. After about three weeks they sent it back to me saying nobody claimed it.
