Join us for this weekend's events at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
She named me Dale Darrell Waltrip Richard Petty Rusty Awesome Bill Irvin Gordon Earnhardt Smith. Johnson. Junior.
I guess you could say mama was a Nascar fan
I was born in Talladega up in the stands
The fans all cheered the second I arrived
The loudspeaker said "The boy's born to drive!"
We didn't have money for a pacifier
So I sucked on the valve off a Goodyear tire
A seven pound eight ounce son of the South
Born with the taste of racin' in my mouth
She named me Dale Darrell Waltrip Richard Petty Rusty Awesome Bill Irvin Gordon Earnhardt Smith. Johnson. Junior.
I got my first real stock car when I was nine
An old one mama bought off of Jeff Bodine
The Winston Cup people said "The boy's too young!"
Till I qualified second at Darlington
How in the world could a nine-year-old child
Hit 197 in a time trial?!
The man said "Mama oughta be ashamed...
But by the way, son, tell us what's your name?"
I told 'em Dale Darrell Waltrip Richard Petty Rusty Awesome Bill Irvin Gordon Earnhardt Smith. Johnson. Junior.
I got a Toys'R'us sponsor and a new pit crew
Daytona loves little 52
The junior high school girls are all cheering for me
I'm out there intimidating #3
But I ain't got room on my cards or my caps or the helmet
I'm drivin' with
To write Dale Darrell Waltrip Richard Petty Rusty Awesome Bill Irvin Gordon Earnhardt Smith. Johnson. Junior.
Think you made a good choice. I helped neighbor work on an 88 Cherokee. Doesn't run...yet. ;)

The Human Side Of Dale Jr. - Minus The Bud Bottle
Posted on October 29, 2005
By Chris Campbell
For those of us that remembered tonight, we were treated to a great interview with Dale Jr. on Budweiser.com. He came out very casually dressed, no red driver uniform, just a t-shirt, and a worn pair of Wranglers. The 1000+ fans in attendance were supportive and cheered at the appropriate times, but were behaved and allowed us all to hear the questions and even the answers. It was very pleasant.
Yes, the many of the same questions were asked of Junior, and he gave his stock answers. However, it was actually a little humorous to hear him say that he takes vitamins because he cant keep in shape but not just any vitamins, but FLINTSTONES! He admitted this quite sheepishly, but to be honest it reminded me he was human. It is this fact I think escapes all of us when we support our driver. Every driver is human, every driver makes mistakes, every driver has a fan, and every driver has feelings.
Junior went on to say what gets him motivated and feeling good is that even on the days that his efforts on the track doesnt come close to meeting expectations, that when he sees a message from his fans that says we support you no matter what, he gets a good feeling. He reminded us that he is human and when they arent doing well on the track, he still has to live with it and tries not to let it bring him or his team down. They try to find ways to joke and look toward the future.
Junior also stated that the fans of the old tracks are the loudest and the most loyal, whereas the fans new to the sport or the ones who frequent the newer tracks are more subdued. I honestly didnt know there was a subdued fan of the Budweiser driver out there.
The folks at Budweiser showed clips of past races and wins of Junior, reminding us all of the good ol days when our driver was a frequent visitor to Victory Lane. We saw him cross the finish line again at Daytona, Chicago, Atlanta, Texas and at Charlotte (excuse me, Lowes) during the WINSTON. The last two clips brought tears to the eyes of the veteran fans when we saw his Daddy run across the grass at Charlotte, or help push the #8 car into Victory Lane and then tug on Juniors applets to get him out of the car for the post-race interview. Memories we will never forget, but still always makes us wish Dale was still here to help celebrate more victories with his son and us.
Junior didnt appear to watch those clips as they appeared on the big screen, probably because it still tears at a part of him as well, even if it has been almost 5 years. He noted that although he only got to race alongside of his Dad for one season, he will never forget those memories and how much it meant to him and to his Dad. Again, showing us his human side.
The only non-human thing Junior did during the interview was resist the temptation of the 3 or 4 bottles of Bud sitting chilled in an ice bucket conveniently placed on the table between him and the woman interviewing him. I actually would have cheered I think if he opened one and took a long drink of it although he did look longingly at them with a side wards glance while pausing before answering each question.
In closing, I just want to thank Budweiser for a great interview, one where we as fans were relaxed and able to hear, and one where it appeared as Junior was pretty much in his element minus the beer in his hand. Junior I want to thank you for giving again to your fans and reminding us that you are human. This fan and my family, along with the thousands to millions of fans of yours, will support you no matter what your performance on the racetrack although, like you, we want to see you wanting to do more doughnuts and burnouts and making Dad grimace with a thumbs up! :)
