Right... it's Mr. Pitt who insists on using a pencil!

Hershorn says The (Toronto) Globe and Mail published it but he wasn't sure of any other outlets. Hershorn says he decided to transmit the picture because it was interesting.

"There was no malicious intent," he says. "That's not what we do."

Or it could be an entirely genuine picture of a piece of paper with CONDOLEEZA RICE'S handwriting at the top, and his continuation at the bottom. In fact, when I read the initial Drudge headline that's exactly what I ASSUMED it was.

That said.... WHO CARES?

Exactly.

If this had been a Democrat President and any of us had pulled this stunt on him, we'd have been rightfully chided as being childish and petty. But, for reasons all-too-unfortunately clear, this trash is a news story with Reuters and WaPo because it bags on the "dumb" Republican President.

As an aside, I have to wonder why the Democrats like to go on about Bush being "dumb." If he's so "dumb," then how did he manage to beat the living snot out of their golden child, hmmm?

It still seems odd to me that the writing itself on the top is so clear and the writing on the bottom impossible to read. I'm not talking about penmanship - I'm talking about the clarity of the actual letters.

Sorry, I'm just not seeing that the difference is that significant:

Besides, I think it's been reported upthread that the photo is "enhanced."

Yes, Reuters said they effectively altered the exposure level using Photoshop. No big deal.

Yes to the JPEG artifacts. If you attempt to sharpen a JPEG image, you will always get those around regions of high contrast (because of the way JPEG compression results in an averaging of the contrast difference, and the 'border' is enhanced'.

I was wondering about that. Thanks for the expertise.

By the way... that is one cool picture. All three of our fine folks seem to be in on a great inside joke!

This is a note written by Condi - passed to Rumsfeld - who passed it to the President. It's clear who wrote what - and should be a good example of how Bush writes:

No, that should tip you off that there are two writers. Condi wrote the top note, he's writing the bottom note.

Not according to Reuters.

He never uses a pencil.

My thought exactly. Further, if he really had to go, that sharp pencil tip would have been broken clean off.

Seems it's about trying to totally embarrass him before the big speech.

The media can't blame him anymore for Katrina.

He never uses a pencil.

True. He's so stupid, he doesn't even know how to write.

Not according to Reuters.

Actually, when I read the initial Drudge report headline it suggested that Condi wrote the initial note. But I certainly acknowledge that this seems to have been lost as the picture has circulated in the wires.

It could also be that he's switching between printed and cursive.

Either way, this is NOT Buckhead II.

On another thread someone pointed out the first few words "I think I MAY NEED A BATH" are printed.
The continuation..."room break?" are written.
