The Times-Picyune wrote an article about this in May 2005. You might want to read this excerpt from Front Page Magazine:

The New Orleans Army Corps of Engineers and Professor Stone were not the only people cognizant of the consequences that could and did result because of the environmental activists.

While speaking with Sean Hannity on his radio show on Labor Day, former Louisiana Congressman and Speaker of the House Bob Livingston also referred to environmentalists whose litigation prevented hurricane prevention projects.

In other words, unlike other programs – including the ones leftists like Sid Blumenthal excoriated the president for not funding – these constructions might have prevented the loss of life experienced in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Why was this project aborted? As the Times-Picayune wrote, “Those plans were abandoned after environmental advocates successfully sued to stop the projects as too damaging to the wetlands and the lake's eco-system.” (Emphasis added.) Specifically, in 1977, a state environmentalist group known as Save Our Wetlands (SOWL) sued to have it stopped. SOWL stated the proposed Rigolets and Chef Menteur floodgates of the Lake Pontchartrain Hurricane Prevention Project would have a negative effect on the area surrounding Lake Pontchartrain.

Further, SOWL’s recollection of this case demonstrates they considered this move the first step in a perfidious design to drain Lake Pontchartrain entirely and open the area to dreaded capitalist investment.

On December 30, 1977, U.S. District Judge Charles Schwartz Jr. issued an injunction against the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lake Pontchartrain hurricane protection project, demanding the engineers draw up a second environmental impact statement, three years after the corps submitted the first one. In one of the most ironic pronouncements of all time, Judge Schwartz wrote, “it is the opinion of the Court that plaintiffs herein have demonstrated that they, and in fact all persons in this area, will be irreparably harmed if the barrier project based upon the August, 1974 FEIS [federal environmental impact statement] is allowed to continue.”

The Times Picyune article was May 28, 2005

Just to clarify, this article gives credit to Michael P. Tremoglie, but also mentions that this was brought to Sean Sean Hannity's attention on his Radio show on September 5th so he was after this information around the very same time as Michael P. Tremoglie.

Probably a lot of people following this story right now and it's going to be the person who breaks something that's not easily found that is going to be the hero of the day... this is the tip of the iceberg (according to my intuition).

Hellooo is anybody home?

You are quoting from Tremoglie's article.

I did not say that he was the first one to report that a lawsuit prevented a project from being built.

I said he was the first one to connect it to the flooding of New Orleans!!!!!!

If you people would spend as much time reading and digesting what Tremoglie wrote instead of trying to disprove what I am saying maybe we could get more articles like this published by the MSM. Tremoglie has written a lot of revelatory stuff over the years. Michelles Malkin quotes him frequently.

Trouble is only Front Page Magazine and Human Events ever publish his investigative pieces exposing liberals.

What is wrong with wanting him to be published by say the LA Times or Atlanta Constitution or other big city papers?

Geeezzzz

Free Republic is the premier online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, ***to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America***

This is all Tremoglie is trying to do. Shame he is being denied the chance to do it and some Freepers = most Freepers - don't have a problem with it.

Actually Hannity is pretty smart, but he has to read more. And quit with these stupid "shootouts" that are far more irritating than entertaining. My view is that you don't give scoundrels like Rangle or Sharpton airtime. They get enough free airtime on lib media outlets. Rush reads voluminously from a wide variety of sources and avoids fruitless "debates" with scoundrels who will never concede points even when staring facts in the face.

Rush's paradigm is more successful than Sean's because you end of getting far more info without the squabbling. However I will listen to Sean because he will put on good conservative guests more than Rush will. That is what makes Hannity's program worth listening to. But not as much as Rush's who is still the king. I like all the conservative hosts... except for Savage who is a raving egomaniac.

If it makes your feel better, I always read your columns in Frontpage mag. Even if my praise is not accompanied by any financial renumeration to which you justly deserve. Glad to see you are a Freeper. Which makes me wonder how many other columnists I read are Freepers and/or who visit this site regularly to get ideas.

"Hannity's program is Limbaugh redux". That is a completely inaccurate statement. You must not listen to their shows. They are two very different programs. See my above post.

Even though they were not to me Miamivice was just being helpful. Why they crucified him is beyond me.

I'm pondering this. I found the behavior-in-post towards MiamiVice over-the-top. It certainly wasn't entertaining to observe this.

Thanks for the kind words. I do appreciate them.

Stay in touch. My email is elfegobaca@comcast.net

I am kind of busy so I don't get a chance to read FR that much. Someone emailed me who does and told me I was a topic of conversation.

I'm not sure I do, either. I could parse a number of things; with none of those being definitive. Politicking aside, sometimes, I think people come on the board wanting excitement. They wish for interactive excitement. And, they seem to look for threads wherein they might pound or dump on someone, regardless of the issue.

Parsing what has taken place on this thread, a researcher and columnist/reporter authors something which others are using without attribution. Author posts on board citing this. Posters jump in to say: Well, duh, man.

Freeper bittnerness? Hannity bitterness? Personal bittnerness? I dunno.

Well it wasn't the author - it was a reader of the author ( I have an idea who Miamivice is although I am not positive),

Regardless, your point is well taken. There are some people looking to criticize others for no reason other than the sheer joy of it. I do think they would be better served aiming their missiles in another direction.

Just my opinion.

I may be wrong, but it seems to me that Hannity hates the Freepers.

Just the other day I heard him hang up on a caller the minute he mentioned FR.

He still reads FR and picks up ideas......and he knows it!

I think your opinion is valid. If the criticisms directed at MiamiVice had been constructive or even productively critical, that would, to my mind, have been within the framework of "thoughtful discussion". But these drive-by-postings are distasteful, a waste of bandwidth, and some of these posts just sound like so many "liberals". Thoughtless; but so glad they got the shot in. ugh and ick.

Rush and Sean are different, but both good in their own ways. I like them both.

This is technically an open source forum. Anyone can read here.

While the shows producers most likely found the info here it was checked out elsewhere to make sure of its accuracy.

Would you prefer we don't have this forum accessible by everyone on the planet?

I agree and listen to Sean when he has folks like the Veep and other interesting personalities participating.

My point was if: "While speaking with Sean Hannity on his radio show on Labor Day, former Louisiana Congressman and Speaker of the House Bob Livingston also referred to environmentalists whose litigation prevented hurricane prevention projects". then it's not a huge stretch to think he had people start a deeper investigation.

He may or may not have used this research and I'm not going to immediately jump to that conclusion.

I agree with your assessment and want to add one more observation: Rush is brilliant in how he handles callers; conservative OR liberal... and actually spends more time and more patience on the liberals trying to understand their line of thinking.

Sean is very impatient with most of his callers are even more so with the liberals.

I would LOVE it if he wouldn't give a forum to Ariana, who is a loon, Sharpton, who I believe is a racist, and other libs he has on regularly. I don't find them entertaining or enlightening.
