Its too bad that Cricket isn't nationwide. I think thats true anyway. Not sure. But for $50/mo you can get 500 long distance minutes and unlimited local calls. And now they have added a deal where you can get a "Flex Bucket", which is an extra 5/mo, and you prepay for your calls you make outside the coverage area while traveling. I was going to switch until they added that because your Cricket phone is completely worthless after you leave the area (Wichita area)

I have a Tracphone and live in the middle of deep forest. It doesn't work here...but, then again no one else's does. Still, the entire county I live in is steep hills, deep valleys and a very remote and sparsely populated place (40,000 in the entire county).
In this area, Tracphone works just as well as all the others. I should add that I got the Motorola phone and not the the el-cheapo that comes with the $29.95 intro special

I just switched from Cingular to TracFone in June. I got a Nokia phone (factory refurbed, 1 yr warranty), 40 minutes good for 90 days for less than $30.
I activated on line for another 10 minutes and bought a 1 year card with 150 minutes that doubles any purchased minutes (making my 150 into 300) for $120. Then I switched my old number over for another 100 minutes and sent invites to my freinds to swap. Anytime they swap & use my email as a reference they & I get 100 minutes. I ended up with 500 minutes good until 12/2006 for about $150.
That works out to about $8.33 a month if I don't use up my 500 minutes in the next 18 months.
TracFone also extends time from your last end date up to 24 months.

Oops. Forgot to mention that I got the 'Single Rate' plan which is good anywhere in the country. The regular 'snag the teens plan' charges 2 for 1 when roaming.

Sign up as a 2nd phone under a friend's or family member's plan. We signed up my sister at $10/month, and she can use 120 minutes (she rarely uses more than 15).
