He gave us a quality start. This lineup should win EVERY quality start we get from our starters.
Manny is on pace to play more games in the OF than he ever has a Red Sox. He's many years older than when he first signed with us. He's not ripped like Kapler, either.
According to Francona he wanted Manny to go work on his swing last night and held him out.
Red Sox magic Number: 20!!!!
RJ is 3-0 against the Sawx this season, but his ERA in 4 starts is a staggering 4.62
Yankees are now 5-11 against the DRays this season. Last nights winning pitcher, Mark Hendrickson, started the game with a 6.09 ERA, the 96th WORST in the majors among the 99 qualifiers ( by number of total innings pitched)..His average against is a staggering .320 Jeter singles to start the game..then the Yankees were no-hit until Matsui's double in the 7th. Hendrickson is 3-0 against the Yankees in 2005. DRay's other pitchers this series, Fossum and Waechter, pitched very well in the other two games this series, yet last week in Boston, when the Sox swept four from TB, those two were lit up for 11 earned runs in 14 innings.. Perhaps the vaunted Yankee offense ain't all it's cracked up to me..We shall see tonight. Wells should rise to the occasion.
ARod was making a strong case for the AL MVP, but he has disappeared the last 10 games....and it now belongs to Big Pappi, IMHO.
Sheffield is expected to miss the entire RedSox series..
Here's a STUPID QUOTE which no doubt will find it's way to the Red Sox clubhouse today..
Allan Embry says that if Torre calls upon him to face Oritz, he expects he will get him out. "When I am right, bet on me," Embree said.."I won't back down."
Embree has fanned Ortiz all thre times he has faced him this season.
FYI..Ortiz this year is batting .304 (17 for 56) against the Yankees, with 5 HRs and 16 RBIs. At Yankee Stadium, he is a staggering .481 (13 for 27) with 3 HRs and 7RBIs. And his career record against the Yankees, wearing a RedSox uniform, including post season, is .335, 18 HRs, and 50 RBIs
Wells is 10-2 in his last 16 starts, with a 3.62 ERA. Well's walks per 9 innings (1.92) is 4th best among active pitchers with a minimum of 1500 innings. Wellsis NOT talking to the media. His teammates say say he is upset that Yankee fans BOO him, despite his 68-28 record as a Yankee, over 4 seasons..
And here is an absolutely amazing stat, to celebrate the NL Cy Young winner in waiting, Chris Carpenter...
IN his last 15 starts, Carpenter is 13-0, with a 1.52 ERA!!! Unreal!!!
I think you have to go back to Koufax or Gibson for a comparable streak.
Chill the beer, it's going to be a great series.
Yup..but what is really gonna be a three day kegger, is the last series..the fianl three days..three games at Fenway, whn the Sawx have clinched, and the Yankees are already eliminated..only thing better would be if Boston has already clinched the titel, and the Yankees come in needing a sweep to win the WC..
Yeah, the tribe has been surging (7-3 in their last 10 with a 4 game win strk) and Okland doesn't seem to want it (4-6 in their last 10). It would be great to see the MFY out of post season play
Go Cleveland!
Shame about the Nats though, I went to some of the games this year. I big fan of Frank Robinson, it would have been nice for that team to make the playoffs.
Cleveland can bury the Twins this weekend, though Santana will probably win tonite..then they play the Royals for the rest of the season, seems like...sched gives them a HUGE advantage..

Actually he could have been 14 or 15 -0. He had a couple of ND in which he pitched well enough to win, but got no support.
If Carp doesn't get the Cy, it will only be because the voters are sympathetic to Clemons. Clem is a great pitcher, and has a great ERA, but if you compare all the stats, Carp deserves it. They may vote for Clem because of his age, and that would be unfortunate.
Some voters are sympatheticc to Clemens, as you say, but many old-time traditionalists detest him....especially his contract with the 'Stros that allows him to be a "part-time" team player...as long as they have someone worthy to vote for...he "loses" more votes than he gains...I don't even think it will be a close vote..

We shall see. It would be obscene if Carp doen't get it.
His season is a tribute to the Cards organization who stuck with him, didn't rush him and let him heal properly.
We beat the MFY last year to win it all. Been there, done that. I agree totally. I have no desire to see them in the playoffs so we can beat them on our way to a repeat. That means nothing to me. I just want to repeat. If we faced the Royals in the 2005 ALCS, it wouldn't take anything away from winning the 2005 ALCS.
Seo was very impressive last night..
When we meet the Cardinals in the series for the national league title, I predict Braves win it in 6.
I don't do predictions. There are too many variables. Good luck to your Braves, but they don't scare me.
In a 7 game series you will have to face Carpenter at least twice. The Cards didn't have 4 starters in the second series and still took 2 out of three. The Cards will have home field advantage.
Braves will first have to get past the Pods..(G)..no sure thing..
