I think under the circumstance, the Superdome was the best choice. Where would you have bussed 250 ~busloads~ of people where there would be better shelter available?
Spot on.
You sure do know how to stir up emotion.
Amen, brother!
Good read RANT.
It just cracks me up - sometimes, I could kick your ass and sometimes, I could kiss you on the lips.
;-)
Even when it's a matter of life and death, dammit.
Excellent rant, I agree with it, I think, 99%.
1. I'd leave. I have family in Charleston, SC, Tallahasee, FL and Boca Raton, FL to stay with.
2. If I couldn't go to my family, I'd get a bus ticket, a ride, hitchhike, whatever, and head inland. Anywhere. With my kit.
3. If I couldn't leave, I'd take my kit and head for something that would survive the blow.
Finally, before my stuff ran out, I'd start lookin' for a relief effort or emergency workers. They're gonna need willing, trustworthy workers and, at the very least, they're gonna feed ya.
These looters need to be removed from the gene pool.
No, they should have been evacuated instead of being left to fend for themselves. No justification for looting non-essentials. But plenty of Blacks in the city are not looting but are in miserable conditions that should have been avoided.
How do you explain that?
The victims of Black poverty and Black crime are overwhelmingly Black. Many Black neighborhoods receive less police services than white neighborhoods.
I haven't seen anything about prayer on the looting threads. Why not people of faith praying first before thinking it's ok to go along with the looters even if it's only for survival goods? I know a lot of those looters are probably not people of any kind of faith except in the government. They don't even like the PO-lice or rescue services (until they need them personally). And I know there are some very poor people who would not resort to looting, meekly accept the muffin and bottled water for breakfast where they are sheltered and hope for a better day.
If one does feel they have no option but to loot survival goods, how about leaving an IOU, even if the looters might destroy it? If I got back on my feet, I would feel it a moral imperative to make restitution for anything I had looted in a time of need.
This moral relativism (catholics justify it, too) should not be taken completely at face value.
Yes, if I had prayed my heart out and manna from heaven were not forthcoming, I would probably do what I felt I needed to, with the above intention of restitution. To the best of my memory, there are no precedents in the bible against looting anything other than David eating the shewbread (religious property of the ruling priests) and Jesus' gleaning the fields on the Sabbath (gleaning was legal, but work on the Sabbath was not).
Recommended reading when you want to feel good about America.
MoodyBlu
I read that book a million years ago - and loved it!
Good comeback... I was waiting to see what you would do.
Great rant! You're mostly preaching to the choir here. The ones you need to reach wouldn't give you the time of day, but that's the moral hole that they have themselves in. I almost feel sorry for them, but on second thought, nahhhhhh.
Precisely, most of the looters "loot" each other or others in their neighborhood regularly. It's actually called stealing, as in "Thou Shalt NOT Steal." OOPS, if forgot, can't get into that God Stuff.
